OMG!!!! I met Tobias Menzies. Let me just say that he is now the coolest person on the planet!
I met up with
artyartie at Angel Station. We got to the theatre early so we waited around for a bit before they let us go inside. The play was fantastic. All the actors were wonderful, especially James Fleet and Nicola Walker. Tobias was excellent. In fact it was hard to watch the other actors, because my eyes just wanted to wander to him when he was on stage. His facial expressions and gestures were filled with so much meaning. He had his back to us at one point and you could still feel the agony that his character was going through. Our seats were front row center so there were several times when he was only two feet away from us. He looked dashing in his safari gear in the first act and in the second act he looked equally sexy in a casual suit. Yes, he did miss a button at the bottom of his shirt, which made it possible to see skin and he even had his shirt open at one point as well. I can't really single out which of characters I liked because I liked them both, for different reasons. He even made me blush several times during some of his speeches (favorite line-"My one aim is to give you rolling orgasms like I do other women").
Afterwards we lingered by the front door (there is no stage door so the actors go in and out the front) waiting. I was surprised that we were the only ones. After about 5 minutes the other cast members started to come out and we waited. I was getting more and more nervous the longer we waited. So about 10 minutes later he came out and saw us and smiled. He was wearing his GLASSES!! And he looked so adorable in a brown jacket, a blue and white checkered shirt, and jeans. M got the talking started then shifted it to me. I told him I was nervous ( I think he could already tell) and he said Awww and patted my shoulder. We started making small talk. He asked where we were from and we started talking about the US and what he thought about LA/California. He mentioned that he wanted to see more of the States and mentioned New York. I told him that he needed to do some theatre there and he said that he really wanted to. We talked a bit more and he signed our programs. He asked me what I wanted to see and I said everything and then mentioned wanting to go to Kew Gardens and he smiled at that. We must've chatted for a good 5 minutes. As we wrapped up M mentioned Rome, which made him smile again. I, being ever so bold, asked for a picture, telling him I needed photographic evidence of the meeting. He laughed and readily agreed.
He put his arm around me and I put mine around him and M took the picture
(yes I look like a dork and my face is flushed, but I was nervous, okay ;P). He was just so open and warm and approachable. I even told him that he should update his blog more often. He said he hadn't had time what with rehearsal but now that things were calming down, he would try to update more often. We said our goodbyes and left as he headed to the theatre bar and of course once we were outside we started squeeing like little girls
What can I say. He is just such a nice guy. I know that's what everyone says, but it's true. He was very genuine while we were talking to him and he seemed very interested in everything we said. He seemed very touched too. I adore him even more now and I look forward to seeing him at the theatre again.
Sorry it's not very articulate. Just be glad the entire thing wasn't OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!
