OLOTEAS Community Festival 2011!

Feb 17, 2011 11:15

I can't believe it's been 15 years. I'm, like, old or something.

---------------

Our Lady of the Earth and Sky invites all to join us for the 6th-annual OLOTEAS Community Festival! We are celebrating the 15 years OLOTEAS has been presenting public ritual in the Seattle area by asking our community to share their knowledge, skills, and magick with all of us. We will have two rituals and four workshops, with topics ranging from Neuro-Linguistic Programming to an OLOTEAS history panel. Presenters include our community members who are also part of Sean Ciall Sword Circle, Institute of Awesome, and Pomegranate Grove. More details below.

Also, the Community Festival will feature a Pick of the Potluck contest, so bring your favorite dishes and let the crowd decide! Prizes will be awarded for best appetizer/salad, best entrée, and best dessert.

Ritual: Lupercalia Ritual and preceding discussion (Pomegranate Grove)
3:00 pm (2 hrs) - Stone Circle
Welcome to Lupercalia; the original Valentine’s Day! Are you ready to sacrifice outmoded ways of being in favor attracting the desires that await you? Lupercalia is a time of inception, a time of throwing caution to the wind and asking the universe, “Why Not?” Come prepared to shed/sacrifice something in order to gain something of greater value. For instance, I may shed my craving for processed foods and sugars in order to gain health and lose weight.
The Pomegranate Grove is a semi-open American Italian Witchcraft tradition located in Everett WA. We hold circle in honor of the eight recognized Sabbatts of the wheel of the year in addition to monthly lunar rites. Please write for more information. willow999@gmail.com

Workshop: Magic Tricks for Conflict Resolution (with Sajy)
3:00 pm (1.5 hrs) - Block House
Are your old ways of dealing with problems actually working, or are the same conflicts coming up again and again? Want to try something new? Join me for a brief discussion of some deceptively simple, yet surprisingly effective techniques for reducing the conflict in your life.

Younglings Workshop: Astrology (with Ruthie)
4:00 (1 hr) - Meditation Room (Living Room)
Come join us we learn a little about who we are and how we relate to the greater universe.

Young Adult Workshop: Astrology (with Joshua)
4:00 pm (1 hr) - Potluck Table
Join us for a more in depth look into the basics of astrology and how it particularly relates to you. Please note: this month, the Young Adult Workshop will meet at the dining table in the living room.

Workshop: What is the IoA? (Institute of Awesome)
5:00 pm (1 hr) - Block House
Come experience the Institute of Awesome style of teaching and energy work. Hear about favorite classes and experiences from IoA members. Discover how you can be part of the AWESOMENESS! Matt and Amanda will also talk about the Great Coyote myths, and how they will apply to the BALLS ritual later in the day.

Workshop: NLP: The Future of Magick? (with Rich & Sean Ciall Sword Circle)
7:00 pm (1.5 hrs) - Block House
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a tool based on integrating successful patterns of behaviour and subjective experiences for training people in self-awareness and effective communication as well as changing their patterns of mental and emotional behaviour. Some have suggested NLP is the future of magick while others have criticized it as a form of "black magick". In this workshop, we will discuss what is NLP and how it can be used to enhance ones magickal practice. We will also discuss how Sean Ciall sword circle uses NLP for its physical, mental & magickal training. Finally, we will finish up with a NLP exercise.
Rich is the leader of the Sean Ciall Sword Circle. Sword Circle teaches people to walk the path of the Magickal Warrior.

Ritual: Always look on the bright side of life! (BALLS)
7:30 pm (1/2 hr) - Stone Circle
Great coyote beckons you to celebrate your foolish heart, and let go of your cantankerous moaning. Do you have wants? Do you have needs? Well, so does everybody else. Join the Blindly Avenging Lovers of Light and Shadow (BALLS) as we examine our overwrought issues, release them into the Trickster’s embrace, and revel in the joy that exists in our lives. Be prepared to walk away from this ritual a happier being. Parental caution: adult themes.

Workshop: OLOTEAS History Panel (OLOTEAS)
8:30 pm (1 hr) - Block House
In honor of 15 years of public Pagan ritual in the Seattle community, we thought it was time for a little reminiscing. What was the Seattle Pagan community like 15 years ago? What was the inspiration behind the decision to start Our Lady of the Earth and Sky and how long did we think it was really going to last? How has our church changed in the last 15 years? Our history is part of who we are and lets us know where we came from. This panel will be informative and entertaining whether you are an oldtimer or newcomer.

What to Bring:
Snacks for yourself, a potluck item to share, and your own feast gear (plate, cup, utensils), as on-site supplies are limited. No meat may be prepared on the kitchen surfaces (pre-cooked meat is acceptable). No alcohol or other intoxicants are allowed at OLOTEAS events. You might also want to bring a towel for pool/hot tub use (note: the pool area is clothing-optional). Shoes cannot be worn inside, so please wear a pair that can be slipped easily on and off. The two rituals will be outside, regardless of weather, so please bring layered clothing for colder/wetter weather if desired. Feel free to bring and play your drums or other instruments. Also, please note that, due to allergy and wildlife concerns, no pets are allowed on site (except service animals).

Registration:
For this event, we request a donation of $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for young adults ages 13-17, and $2.00 for children 2-12; this includes all aspects of the event. It is important for event and ritual planning that *all* people check in at the front door. Please do not arrive before 2:00 pm unless you want to attend the work party at 10:00 am.

A Note About Children:
This site features a swimming pool, hot tub, and numerous natural outside features that pose potential risks for unattended children; therefore, children MUST be under adult supervision (in line-of-sight) at ALL times during this event. With respect to the pool, an individual adult may be responsible FOR NO MORE THAN 3 CHILDREN (those 13 and under). Other than the kids’ workshop (when offered), there are no organized children’s activities, although there are games and crafts for kids.

A Note About Noise at the Longhouse:
The Longhouse requires that participants keep the noise level very low after 10:00 pm. Loud noise includes car alarms (so make sure your alarm is turned off), car muffler issues or backfiring (if your vehicle has issues, please park at the top of the hill parking lot), loud motorcycle engines (again, please park at the top of the hill parking lot), drumming or other music (if it continues long after ritual, please stop and ask a staff member if there is a space indoors where drumming or other music could continue until 10:00 pm), and loud talking in the parking lot (voices carry over to the neighbors’ property). Also, please be considerate by entering and exiting the site quietly.

A Note About Parking and Carpooling:
Please carpool if at all possible - there is limited onsite parking. If driving to the site, please park close to the adjacent vehicle, but be considerate of vehicles displaying disability license plates or signs. Once at the site, due to limited space and potential number of participants, we advise that folks leave most personal belongings in their vehicles.

Directions:
Take 520 eastbound to the Redmond Way/Fall City (WA 202) Exit. Turn right at the light at the end of the off ramp. Go approximately 5 miles on Redmond-Fall City Road. Driveway is on the right, 23301 (directly across from Guardwell Storage). If you pass Albertson’s, you have gone about 100 yards too far. When you first pull into the drive you should immediately see a large wooden sign that says “The Longhouse”; if you don’t you are in the neighbors’ drive.
