Meme - Musical Interlude

Feb 04, 2012 02:22

What five songs are you in love with right now?

In no particular order …

‘Titanium’ - David Guetta

This is one of those I heard briefly on the radio and had to track down by remembering snatches of lyrics and typing them into Google. The video is my favourite so far this year and the song itself is deceptively simple, with the music layered beneath the vocals in a haunting yet powerful melody. Plus, it’s really empowering to walk/drive along shrieking: “I am titanium!”

‘Paradise’ - Mike Tompkins (cover of Coldplay)

I love Mike Tompkins. He’s a really clever chap who redoes famous songs using nothing but his voice and random sounds made with his mouth. He takes a-capella to a whole new level and this is, IMHO, his best track to date.

‘The Edge of Glory’ - Lady GaGa

That saxophone solo. Just … gah! I’m not gaga over GaGa, but this one? Hits all my buttons with its ‘stir your stumps and go do something epic’ vibe.

‘Code Monkey’ - Jonathan Coulton

I don’t think this was ever officially released, but it should be. This AMV perfectly suits that song, which itself captures the upbeat lament of cubicle workers all over the world.

DJ Earworm Mash-Up - United State of Pop 2011 (World Go Boom)

I love DJ Earworm, and especially his end-of-year mixes. He takes the top 25 songs of the year and slices them together into a mind-bendingly catchy and CLEVER single track. It’s worth listening to just to see how seamlessly such disparate songs can be blended together.
