Did I just title my CORE paper "Caesar, Cato, Catiline, and Clemency: an Alliteration Waiting to Happen" ? Yeah, I believe I did.
It's actually an OK paper. Maybe she'll be so enchanted by my awesome title / cutting edge introduction that she'll gloss over ... the rest of it.
My introduction is seriously cutting edge. Look.
Rome. Circa 60 BC. The foundation upon which the Empire rests its ideological and literal laurels is already shaky, and there is a dilemma that further complicates the questionable state of the state. Cataline, a ruthless zealot, once planned and attempted a coup d’état. Now he has been caught. What is to be done with him and his followers? How are they to be punished? Should the citizens stick with the legal precedent that dictates exile, or should they set a new precedent, choosing a rare and extreme punishment - execution - as the way to avenge Catiline’s treacherous crimes? This conflict brings us to the heart of the Roman debate about clemency, a debate that has plagued Rome for ages and one that will contribute to its eventual implosion and collapse. In this paper, I will use Caesar and Cato’s speeches re: Catiline’s fate to explore the volatile issue of clemency among the Romans.
Um, yeah. The next 2.5 weeks = death. Each time we run Merchant, it will take 6 hours (2 hours call DAMMIT, 3 hours show, 1 hour getting out of makeup & costume / having dinner). Also, there is an awesomely hardcore small group Movement final project that = Rosie and Caroline and Forrest coming up with a completely original 20 minute performance piece and doing it publically in the blackbox. Easier said than done. But so far, it's cutting edge / awesome. Think 1/3 Lord of the Flies, 2/3 Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead. Also, there is the CORE final that involves hanging with Jules Dizzle (my professor) and telling her a synthesis of everything that we've read (or in my case, haven't read). With a thesis and evidence that encapsulates EVERYTHING. Also, there's the fact that in 2.5 weeks it's the end of the semester and I'd like to squeeze a smidgen of time in to see my friends before the month long break. But I'm not REALLY complaining. Everything is so busy and THRILLING. I feel like I'm on the edge. The cutting edge.
Actually, I'm staying at Whitman for like 3 days after finals and everything is over, and that should be hella relaxing and fun and re-crunkulous.
Remember when you fools didn't get a snow day and I did? That's right, I went there. What now? WHAT. NOW.
