Day 3: Your favorite television program
Ooh, this one I can answer definitively.
Bones
This is the one show in my 21 years of TV watching that brings me complete and utter joy every. single. week. Like, I've been on it since season 2 started, and three years later, the show is the best that it's ever been. It makes me happy like nothing else. It's often fanfiction cliche turned canon - and still makes it completely entertaining and all kinds of fantastic. Like, when I'm scared of a storyline going in one direction, it still goes that way and makes me enjoy it.
And LOL forensic anthropology? FBI? The show isn't about any of that. This show is about love and family and courage and heart, about these people who are in and around each other's lives always and make each other better. And in the middle of it all - Booth and Brennan who are in love and everybody knows it and says it out loud and accepts it as mere fact. They are getting their shit together now, and I will explode when it finally happens for them. THIS SHOW.
Friday Night Lights
!!!!!!!!!!! This is the best gift that LJ-stalking has ever given me. S1 was airing on NBC and just about every single person I admired~ from afar was raving about it, and once I finally had some free time, I downloaded the season and went to town. I finished the whole thing in, like, a week. S1 is seriously the most perfect season of TV - from the pilot and its music and its guerrilla filming and Street and Coach and Tami and this crazy town - I was in love. This is the first and only TV pilot that has ever made me sob my guts out. And LOL it's a continuing pattern basically all throughout the series - I've cried at 90% of all the episodes. I made the mistake of watching an S3 ep while waiting to meet up with some friends, and I couldn't hold back my tears. In public. When the freaking opening theme comes up on shuffle, I tear up. Just like Bones is not at all about forensics, FNL is not at all about football.
THIS SHOWWWWWW. This cast. The writing. Even at its lowest points story-wise (ahem, S2), it's still at a higher caliber than 99% of any other show out there. It's all kinds of gorgeous and aching and layered and real, every. single. time.
I don't even know. While the rest of the world binges on CSI and Grey's Anatomy and the fucking Kardashians (look at me trying to pretend to know what's popular these days), they're missing out on the most amazing thing on TV right now. It makes me ache to think of the zero recognition FNL has gotten in the industry. HOW DOES CONNIE BRITTON NOT HAVE AN EMMY YET? OR KYLE CHANDLER? ZACH GILFORD NEEDS TO FUCKING GET ONE AFTER 4x05, I DON'T EVEN.
