ONE I got myself a Tumblr account! Follow me and I'll follow you right back. :) I don't really know much about the site, but it seems like a good place to post my random, one-off crazy ideas/pictures/quotes/YouTube videos instead of spamming you guys here on LJ. So. Add me:
laralaralara.tumblr.com TWO Belated Happy Tony Awards Day! Thank God for Twitter, or else I would have driven myself crazy trying to keep up. I still haven't seen the whole thing - I'm waiting for a kind soul to upload it, hopefully I'll have it by tomorrow night. I've scoured YouTube for all the important clips though, and while the sound is awful (whoever was in charge of that has to be fired, goddamn) it seemed like a pretty great show.
Just for
NPH,
Bobby-Alice-Tveit pwning and the
HAIR performance alone would have made my night if I had watched it live.
So anyway. The winners. I can't claim to be any kind of objective about any of them -- I haven't seen any of them live, so I know I really can't judge. Even with the pretty impressive number of bootlegs I've seen over and over, it still doesn't hold a candle to the real thing. There's that, and the fact that I'm such a Next to Normal freak that I'd have been upset over any award they didn't get (Tveit being snubbed still stings a little, ngl). Karen, Alice and HAIR as best revival were really the only ones I really, honestly would have cut a bitch if they lost. AND YOU KNOW WHAT - TOM KITT HAS TWO TONY AWARDS, HOLLA! \:D/ LOL. I really really wanted Bobby or Gavin to get Lead Actor more than the Billys, but that's my personal bias and I'm stoked for the kids so I can let that slide. I admit that I was all sadface over Billy winning Musical - they'd already swept the night, couldn't they have given that one to Next to Normal? *pout*
Blech, whatever. I'm not at all objective about any of this, so I don't even know why I'm typing this all up. :P Bottom line: YAY THEATER! Here's hoping these shows will still be around when my family and I haul ass to NYC in a year.
THREE All this Tony talk is making me really really anxious to watch more shows. There's the Spelling Bee rerun in July, The Fantasticks soon after, AND THEN HOLY GOD Spring Awakening in September HOLLA! The cast list is being leaked
one by one, and after watching
this interview with Chari Arespacochaga (director), I'm even more excited. GUYS, IT WILL BE EPIC. AND I WILL SEE IT AT LEAST THREE TIMES. YESSSSSSS.
FOUR More happy thoughts! I woke myself up at 7:30 AM to watch my beloved Kris Allen sing the National Anthem at the NBA Finals. I was a quivering mess while waiting - it felt uncannily like waiting for results shows on Thursday mornings, haha - but once again, Pocket Idol proved all anxiety to be useless. He looked really really hot in that unbuttoned black shirt, and more importantly he
knocked the song out of the park. I really should just stop freaking out about everything he does. Heh. And I want to go to the Land of the Fray, wherever that is. ;)
My day was made at approximately 8:22 this morning, when somebody on
ontd_ai posted THE MOST AMAZING PICTURE OF ALL TIME:
Dwight Howard's bicep is bigger than Kris's head, ohmylord
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I WILL NEVER STOP LAUGHING, EVER. I CAN'T EVEN. GAH.
vanya_elda was obsessed with getting a Kris/Kobe picture, but this is the next best thing. :P He's so tiny and wee. I don't even know, you guys. I really really don't. <3
ETA: Breaking news, but not really. It's official, though -
Kris is signing with Jive Records, aiming for the release of his debut album in the fall. I can't even make myself stress over this, I'm just really really excited for him. :) I can't wait for his album. I'm selfish and I want new Kris Allen songs in my iPod now, plzthx.
FIVE I have an extra week of summer vacation because of the ~high alert~ about A H1N1, and I'm pretty determined to make the most of it. My goals in the next seven days: read at least 3 books (The Blind Assassin, Middlesex, A Thousand Splendid Suns; maybe start with my HP reread or Atonement), finish my super delayed West Wing S2 picspam, and make a dent in the huge stack of DVDs I've yet to watch. After months of endless goading by many friends, I'm finally starting with One Liter of Tears tonight. God help me and my tear ducts in the next 12 or so hours. T_T

I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound or stab us. If the book we're reading doesn't wake us up with a blow to the head, what are we reading for? So that it will make us happy, as you write? Good Lord, we would be happy precisely if we had no books, and the kind of books that make us happy are the kind we could write ourselves if we had to. But we need books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us. That is my belief.
