Marty was in the weeds. Sure, the idea of actually cooking dinner for Angela seemed like a good idea at the time but now that he was burning the chicken and the apartment was getting filled with a bit of smoke? Not so much.
Turning on the kitchen vent and surveying the damage, Marty wondered if he had enough time to dash down the street and order take out and then pass it off as his own.
Angela
Probably not, because the girlfriend was coming up, carrying a small giftbag. She opened the door without knocking.
And immediately started coughing.
Marty
"Hey," Marty said trying to open a window. "Happy Valentine's day."
He coughed a bit and then grinned sheepishly.
"Dinner is almost ready."
Angela
"Did you try to cook?" Angela asked, coughs dying off. She sounded concerned by the idea.
Marty
"I didn't think I would mangle it that badly," Marty said as the smell from the apartment began to clear. "Clearly the stove is sentient and also hates me."
Angela
"Or it's our week for meeting up in smelly rooms," Angela suggested. "Happy Valentine's day, anyhow."
Marty
"Happy Valentine's day," Marty said coming over to wrap his arms around Angela. "Do you want me to order take out or would you just prefer to dig into the strawberry cheesecake in the fridge?"
Angela
"Cheesecake, oh my god," Angela said automatically as she squeezed him back. "It completely has as many calories as dinner, so it counts."
Marty
"Are you sure? Because I'm betting my chicken parm is absolutely delicious," Marty joked. "What's in the gift bag?"
Angela
"Maybe. Um, I could teach you to cook," Angela said, nuzzling him affectionately before she reached for the bag.
"This? It's a gift," she told him.
Marty
"Is it batteries for my smoke detector?" Marty joked as he started to open the bag. "Because if I'm going to learn to cook I'll need extra."
Angela
"Sorry, you have to buy those for ourself," Angela sang out. "But I think you'll like this anyhow. I ... may have kind of gone overboard."
Inside a small box inside the bag, he would find
a watch with "AKC + MQB 4EVA" engraved on the back.
Marty
Marty's eyes popped open when he opened the box. "Oh wow," he said taking out and examining the watch and then grinning at the inscription. "This is fantastic," he said leaning over to give her a kiss. "Thank you."
Angela
"You're welcome," Angela said, bouncing on her toes. "Soooo.... cheesecake?"
Marty
"Well sure," Marty said heading to the fridge. "If you don't want your gift? Sure we'll just have the cheesecake."
Angela
"But you didn't tell me gifts were an option!" Angela laughed. "First a gift, then cheesecake?"
Marty
Marty sighed comically as he pulled out a small
blue bag. "Cheesecake and a gift? My, my, my. Aren't we a greedy?"
Angela
"Only because you get me good stuff," Angela told him, opening the box.
She stood staring at it, her mouth open. "Marty. It's so beautiful."
Marty
Marty grinned as he leaned over to give her a kiss. "Happy Valentine's day. Cheesecake?"
Angela
"Cheesecake!" Angela confirmed, opening the fridge and rummaging around for the cheesecake box. "It is so nice to be able to taste things again."
Marty
"And obviously you have your appetite back," Marty said with a smirk. "I picked it up from Junior's this morning. Ever tried their desserts before?"
Angela
"I'm not sure!" Angela laughed, as she found the box and opened it. "It looks amazing, though. What were we supposed to have before it?"
Marty
"Chicken parmesean," Marty said with a shrug. "Though at this point I'm going to call it blackened chicken."
Angela
Angela made a face. "Cheesecake alone is perfect," she said, "especially with the champagne you had in the back of the fridge."
Marty
Marty's grin just got bigger as he pulled out a pair of champagne flutes. "Well I thought a little bubbly might help wash down dinner."
Angela
"Especially if dinner is just cheesecake." Angela went to the cabinet to get out plates and forks. "We should eat lounging on the floor. It'll be all romantic."
Marty
Marty in the meantime had unwrapped the bottle and had carefully removed the cork. "I like that. Let me grab a blanket for us to sit on."
Angela
"We have the best ideas," Angela said fondly, turning to kiss him before she went into the living room.
When Marty entered, he would find Angela had turned the lights way, way down and put on a jazz CD. Her boots off, she sat on the floor, legs tucked under her long skirt.
Marty
Marty smiled as he placed the blanket on the floor and handed her the glass of champagne. "I think someone is definitely feeling better."
Angela
"Much," Angela said, with a grateful sip. "What about you, are you doing okay?"
Marty
"Not a sniffle," Marty said sitting down next to her and giving her an affectionate look. "Must be my superior immune system."
Angela
Angela stifled a giggle at that. "Clearly," she said. "But I'm happy you're healthy. Makes you much snugglier." To prove the point, she laid her head on his shoulder.
Marty
"Snugglier?" Marty asked as he slipped his arm around her waist. "That is so not a word."
Which didn't stop him from leaning in for a kiss.
Angela
"I'm a creative writing student," Angela told him. "If I make up a word? It's, like, totally a word." That settled, she kissed him back.
Marty
Marty's hand ran through her hair as he kissed her jawline. "Oh? Any other words you want to make up at the moment?" he teased.
Angela
"I could say 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,' but I think someone got there first," Angela answered. She leaned forward to take a bit eof cheesecake, then moved her fork to try to feed Marty.
Marty
"Careful," Marty said taking a bite of cheesecake. "You might sound precocious."
Angela
"And I'm too old for that," Angela said, trying to sound all old and wise and not-18. She took another bite of cheesecake. "Mmmmm, I love you just for buying this."
Marty
"Low expectations," Marty snickered before taking a sip of champange. "I love that in a woman."
Angela
Angela snorted back a giggle. "Not true. I would have made you give me the necklace before anything happened."
Marty
"So you were just holding out for the good stuff?" Marty said raising and eyebrow and snagging a bite of cheesecake.
Angela
Angela gave a kind of exasperated noise. "No! I mean, that's what I said, but i was so joking and -- gah!," she flailed, turning bright red
Marty
Marty laughed. "All this time together and it's still fun to embarrass you," he said offering her a bite of cheesecake.
Angela
Angela took the bite slowly, mollified. Swallowing, she added, "I know. This is our third Valentine's, huh?"
Marty
"Only three?" Marty asked. "It seems like so much more than that. And yes, that's a good thing."
Angela
Angela shot him a glance out from under her eyelashes. "I hope so. And I hope we get a lot more."
Marty
"We will. I promise," he said before leaning in to give her a kiss.
Angela
Angela kissed him back, setting her champagne flute aside so her hands were free.
Marty
Marty's hands began to run through her hair as he continued to kiss her. "I love you so much," he murmured.
Angela
Angela didn't answer in words. She figured he knew she loved him too.
Or maybe she just got distracted trying to pull him down to the floor with her without knocking the cheesecake or champagne over.
Marty
Marty flopped down on the floor, barely even noticing his elbow smooshing his own cheesecake as he was too busy focusing his attention on Angela.
Angela
Angela noticed and giggled at the smooshing.
Now his shirt had to come off, didn't it? She tugged on it helpfully.
Marty
Marty grinned and a few seconds later he was shirtless and also trying to be helpful with Angela's clothing as well.
Angela
Angela let herself be helped out of her sweater, a tiny bit impatiently, then kissed a line down Marty's neck.
She glanced up at the champagne, having an idea.
Marty
"Mmm," Marty said quietly as his hands moved down to the small of her back. "What are you up to?"
Angela
"Nothing ..." Angela said innocently, dipping a finger into the champagne.
She trailed it down Marty's chest, then licked it off slowly.
Marty
Marty let out something between a sigh and a moan of pleasure as he hands sunk a little lower to start undoing Angela's skirt. "You're going to pay for that," he teased.
Angela
Angela meant to ask how she would pay. She truly did.
But she wasn't that coherent right then, so she settled for another kiss.
Marty
Coherency is overrated in Marty's opinion. Which is why he slowly began a trail of kisses down Angela's neck... then her chest and stomach and then further down below that.
Angela
It was good Marty was not looking for coherence in a woman right then, because Angela was not managing it. At all. She kicked her way out of the rest of her clothes, then laid back to appreciate the attention.
Marty
And a lot of attention was given. So much so that both Marty and Angela became very incoherent. So much so that as things progressed Marty didn't even notice that his back was covered in cheesecake.
And because these kind of details take a lot of explaining, it's best to leave it your imagination and [FTB].
