Marty is busy... doing nothing. He's caught up on classes and homework so he's mostly poking around on the internet seeing if there's anything interesting going on in the world.
So far he'd have to say that, all things considered, nothing interesting is going on in the world.
Then again when you live at a school where your socks turn against you, "interesting" takes on a whole new definition.
Veronica hasn't talked to Marty in a while. She doesn't have anything interesting going on, either, but she figures catching up can't be bad, so she calls him.
"International House of Pancakes," Marty said answering the phone. "Home of the uber-pancake. How can I help you ?"
"Do you deliver?" Veronica asked.
"Only if you live on the island," Marty replied. "And then only in the area of room 212."
Veronica sighed dramatically. "Oh, well, I guess I'm out of luck. How's it going, Blank?"
"I was attacked by my socks last week," Marty said in an offhand manner.
"What did you do to offend them?" Veronica asked.
"Apparently it was a fandom thing. Everyone's socks revolted," Marty said with a shrug. "And these little friendly critters came in and took them down. Don't you miss going to school here?"
Veronica looked down at her feet and studied her socks for a moment. "Not so much," she joked. "I miss my friends though. Do you have post-graduation plans yet?"
"Michigan comma University of," Marty replied. "Go Blue. Turns out the essay Angela wrote for me was taken as a metaphorical essay and I got a partial scholarship based on it. Who would have known being an ex-hitman would be great for my academic career?"
"Congrats," Veronica grinned. "I'm proud of you. Even though Michigan is really far away from California."
"You must be missing something from your college education, Mars," Marty teased. "Have you ever heard of the concept called 'Road Trip'?"
Veronica laughed. "Okay, good point. Speaking of, you should come out and visit me this summer. We can hang out on the beach."
Marty frowned slightly at that but kept his voice light. "I don't know Mars. Me on a beach? Wearing a suit in the summer is bad enough."
"Aw, come on, Blank. Live a little. It won't kill you to wear something other than a suit," Veronica teased.
"My socks just tried to eat my feet," Marty retorted. "My suits would probably attack me in a jealous rage if I put on summer clothes."
"Not in Neptune," Veronica pointed out. "Clothing doesn't attack here."
"Aren't you and Piper living together?" Marty asked. "Because where magic is so does the possibility of jealous suit rage."
Veronica laughed. "Fine, don't come and visit me. I'll just be sad and lonely."
"I'll try to make it out there this summer," Marty replied. "Right now I'm too busy with classes to deal with anything."
"Okay," Veronica said. "Is there anything else going on?"
"Possibly. I haven't been listening to the radio lately but I'm assuming that everything they say is tainted by the squirrels."
"I meant with you," she clarified. "Is everything okay?"
"Sure. Angela and I are doing pretty well and I haven't had any fish thrown at me," Marty replied. "What about you? Are you going to Prom with Cam or are you too cool for us now that you're a college girl?"
"I'll go if he asks me," Veronica said. "That reminds me, the place where you got that sailor suit last year. Do you have any idea if they carry Air Force uniforms?"
There's a slight pause as Marty's head explodes. "You really shouldn't be asking me these questions Mars."
Veronica smirked. "Hey, you're the one who sent me the sailor suit last year," she reminded him.
"A joke," he reminded back. "I didn't think you were going to use it. And I really don't need any visuals of you in anything else."
"I thought it would be a nice graduation present for Cameron," she said. "Do you and Angela have any exciting summer plans?"
"Again? Visuals. Stop it," Marty said shaking his head. "And as for Angela and I? We're just taking it moment by moment."
Because anything beyond that and... Yeah. Marty is soooo not talking about that.
Veronica totally understands. "Well, I should probably get going. I'm glad you're doing well. Hopefully I'll make it out there for graduation."
You better," Marty said. "Or there will be words. Possibly verbs and articles. Take care Mars."
"You, too, Blank," Veronica said. "Don't be a stranger."
After the phone call, Marty started googling "Socks" and "Attacks" just to see what might come up.
