Earth to Mars [RP'd via e-mail]

Somewhere in Suburbia....

Marty struggles to stay awake. Two turkey meals in one day appear to have taken the toll on his stomach.

His mind however appears to be having its own issues. Picking up his cell phone, he dials what is becoming a somewhat familiar number.

Veronica is surprised to see Marty's number pop up on her call display. Somewhat warily she answers. "Happy Turkey Day."

"Hey," Marty replies.

It takes him a while for him to think of something to say.

"Uh... Happy Thanksgiving to you too," he says somewhat lamely.

Pretty sure that Marty didn't call to wish her a belated Happy Thanksgiving, Veronica considers her options and decides to be blunt. "What's up, Blank?"

Marty hesitates a second before replying. "Listen I think I may have been a little out of line the other day when we were talking. You know. About him."

"You think?" Veronica cannot keep the sarcasm out of her voice. "And what brought about this revelation?"

Marty looks over at Angela, who is working on her geology homework. "Let just say that someone reminded me that I shouldn't be arguing with the one person who cleared my name and was one of the few people who trusted me after Kitty was killed. I said some things I shouldn't have. I'm sorry about that."

Veronica sighs. "Don't worry about it. I understand why you don't trust him. If he hadn't sa… um… helped me the way he did, I probably wouldn't trust him either."

Marty thinks about Veronica's response a second or two before responding. "I'm... I'm not going to ask what he did to help you Mars. If you want to trust him, I won't fault you with that. Just don't expect me to be throwing him any parades any time soon.

"You don't strike me as the parade throwing type anyway," she responds with a chuckle. She pauses. "Look, it's not that I don't trust you, it's just that I'm not really comfortable talking about what happened."

Marty nods (even if it's only to himself). "I understand, and you don't have to. Anyway I'm not the big bad security guy anymore, so it's none of my business anyway. I just wanted to apologize and make sure we we're cool."

"Of course we're cool," she begins, when Marty's words actually sink in. "Wait, what do you mean you're not the security guy anymore?"

Marty sighs. "Sorry, I thought everyone knew. Bristow kicked me off of student council earlier this week for my little run-in with Drusilla. Apparently being attacked by a vampire and then setting her on fire is considered behavior unbecoming to a student council member."

"You've got to be kidding me! You were defending yourself. What were you supposed to do? Let her kill you?" Veronica's outrage is obvious.

Marty shakes his head and sighs. "According to Bristow? Call the police. Perform a 'strategic retreat'. Dance the funky chicken while she sucked my blood. I don't know. I'm fine with it. Really. It's one more reason for me to stay out of trouble. Surely you can understand that right?"

Veronica laughs. "More than you know. Unfortunately, I think I'm one of those people that trouble finds no matter how hard I try to stay out of it."

Marty laughs as well. "That's something you and I appear to have in common. I'll-" Marty stops as Angela's sister Danielle comes into the room. "I better go. Chase Jr. is in the room. She's too young to hear about... our school activities," Marty says quietly.

"Enjoy the rest of your vacation, Blank. I'll see you next week."

Marty hangs up the phone and the subjects himself to Danielle's annoying questions. All told? He'd rather be interrogated by Bristow.
