After Lamb's Announcement [RP'd via E-mail with Veronica Mars]

Nov 15, 2005 16:17

Marty watches Sheriff Lamb's announcement on TV and shakes his head. He picks up his cell phone and dials Veronica's number and waits for her to pick up.

Veronica rolls over and grabs her phone. "'lo?" she says sleepily.

"Johnny? Kenneth? I see you've been a busy girl. You got a TV in your room? Turn it on to the local news." Marty says. "They've got a hell of a story going on."

It takes her a second to place the voice. When she does, she realizes that Bristow must have taken the recording to Lamb. She rolls over and reaches for the remote, only to realize she isn't in her bed. She sits up and remembers that she came to crash in the attic with Piper again. She doesn't see a TV. "I'm not in my room, Blank. What's going on?"

Marty turned down the volume on the TV. "Lamb just announced that Angelus is suspected as the killer and that he's fled the island. Which I highly doubt by the way. What did you find out?"

Veronica's heart drops to her stomach. "They can't find him? Great." She sighs. "I'm not supposed to talk about it. Bristow's orders."

"What? Not even for your client?" Marty joked. "Well whatever it was, you have my undying gratitude. If I were you though? Lay low today or get the hell out of town. Angelus's little goon squad will probably be looking to make trouble for someone. If they find out you were behind this..."

"All I'll say is I hope you weren't terribly attached to that digital audio recorder," she says. After a pause, she adds, "And to hell with laying low. I'm not failing high school because of them. I'm not the one who did anything wrong. I already missed one day of classes because of this."

"The recorder you mean I..." Marty shakes his head. "Mars, this isn't your average JA. It's not a bunch of kids trying to put someting on their transcript for college. This is a goon squad with a wizard, a demon, a mad scientist, a woman warrior who walks around in a leather bikini and worst of all: a lawyer in training."

Veronica sighs. "I know. And believe me, I'll be watching my back. But I refuse to go into hiding. Besides, there are only a handful of people who know I'm involved in this anyway."

Marty shakes his head in frustration. "Just be careful. I'm the one who dragged you into this mess and if anything happens to you... yeah well it'll be my fault. Seriously, Mars. I owe you big time."

"You didn't drag me. I got myself into this. It's a bad habit I have of trying to clear people of crimes they didn't commit. But, Bristow is planning to have a talk with me. He knows the recorder was yours, so you might get called in, too."

Marty sighs. "Okay. Thanks for the heads up. When it comes up? I'll take the blame for getting you involved in this. No reason for you to get thrown out of school or into detention for what happened."

Veronica grimaces as she remembers what the Dean said last night. "Oh, I don't think he's planning to throw me out of school or in detention," she says. "I think he's got something worse planned." She lets out a frustrated sigh.

For some reason a dark room with a strange looking table flashes before Marty's eyes. He shakes his head. "Great." he says with a sigh. "That'll be something to look forward too. So... when can I expect your bill, Mars? You can probably expect a bonus for the work you've done."

"You couldn't afford me, Blank. We'll just say you owe me one."

"Then if you need anything from me, you got it. No questions asked." Marty says with a grin and a head tilt. "See you around school Mars. And thank you."

"You're welcome, Marty. And do me one small favor? Try not to get involved in any more crimes."

Marty laughs. "I'll do my best. Watch your back Mars. It's going to be a rough week. See ya."

"See ya," she says, clicking her phone off. She glances at the clock and realizes she needs to get a move on if she's going to be on time for classes.
