I know I bug you about the stupidest things known to man, but I've decided to get a Guinea pig for my cat - Not to eat, but as a friend. The only thing i remember is that they need grass and a stuff to gnaw on and a quarter of an orange a day. Am I missing anything?

They need timothy hay (not alfalfa), sometimes I get Oxbow botanical hay, I also use Oxbow organic guinea pig food, but mostly I feed them lots of fresh organic vegetables. Cucumbers, parsley, bell peppers, and maybe a romaine lettuce. Don't give them iceberg lettuce, that has no nutritional value at all. If you choose to give them non-organic cukes, make sure they have no wax on the skin. If you have any friends with gardens, take all the extra veggies you can. I use Kaytee lavender pet bedding: http://www.petmountain.com/product/paper-pet-bedding/11442-526231/soft-granule-blend-small-pet-bedding-lavender-scent.html It's soft on their feet, and it has little dried flowers in it that they like to eat when you change their box. You'll also need a water bottle and a salt lick. Some of the salt licks have vitamin C in them, but if they will eat an orange that works too. I've found most pigs don't like citrus, but sometimes they will get used to it. The cats I've had have never really cared for the guinea pigs. cats seem to generally be loners and mine have never been interested in befriending the pigs. Be careful! Even if a cat and pig have been friends for years, the pig might do something that sets off the cats predatory instincts. Just watch them carefully when they are together.
