Marathon

So I wanted to train to run the LA Marathon this year for the 2012 race. I've done one marathon in San Diego before, many years ago, and several 1/2 marathons since then. But doing the LA Marathon has always been a goal. Then I got into the car accident in June on Father's Day and banged up my knee. It healed fine except for some flair up of pain every so often.

I went to the doctor today. First appointment with her, I had to wait a month for the appointment being a new patient but I wanted to get checked out. She thinks I'm healing well, and that any flair ups of pain I feel are probably just because I'm not completely healed. Then she checked out my range of motion on my shoulder, neck and knee. Everything seemed fine but she said if anything comes up once I start exercising more to let her know and she might have to refer me to physical therapy. So basically, everything seems fine but it's impossible to tell that my knee won't bother me if I start training for a marathon.

So now I'm debating whether I should push back trying for the marathon until next year. Spend this year slowly training so if something comes up I can deal with it without losing hundreds of dollars in the registration costs of the race and the training program for the race.

Part of me doesn't want to push it back to 2013 because it's almost like quitting before I start. But then I know how much strain a marathon puts on your body and to start off not a 100% would be foolish. :sigh: Training starts September 10th so I have a little time to ponder the decision.
