Who Cares

So a few celebrities died who cares? There are much more important things going on right now like North Korea acting crazy as a loon and the coup in south america, the troop build ups in Iraq, if Obama is going to get us mixed in to Iran. HR 45 is has been presented and I bet hardly anyone knows how that is the start of the Obama gun laws that ( Read more... )

It's always been my firm belief that you have to FOLLOW the news. You want to hear about local news, watch the local evening news, or read the paper. You want to hear about political news, entertainment, science, you have to know where to look. No one should depend on social networks/time wasting websites for their news. And no one should just depend on one single news station for all the information they desire. There's plenty of channels, and plenty of information on the internet.

I'm not sure about what makes you think people don't know about Iran and the bills being proposed, and how Obama's pick for supreme court justice will probably be "struck down", but more people are in the know about it than you may think.

And you haven't heard the end of Michael Jackson news. Not by any stretch. Not when a second autopsy was performed. Not when the doctor living with him is being investigated. Not when toxicology reports won't be known for several weeks. Especially not now, when the truth about his life begins to surface by those in his 'camp'. And I'm NOT talking about child molesting stuff.

But, no one has to read about that stuff if they don't want to. By all means, everyone should seek out the news they want to see/read/hear. And if what someone wants to hear is only news that pertains to celebrities, that's their right.

You have to understand, people grow up with music, movies, and tv. Sometimes we hold a special place in our heart for an entertainer. We grow up with them.... I'm going to go so far as to say that the death of Michael Jackson is probably one of the few major celebrity deaths we will witnessed in our lives. We weren't around when Elvis passed, so we have no idea how much the public mourned. Most of the great actors of the silent era, men and women who made Hollywood great, before it became the "glamor whore" it is now (this is the ONLY time you'll hear me badmouth Ca.) were dead by the early 70's. We're too young to remember the passing of a legendary actor like Charles Chaplin, much less what his career was like.

I, being 28 years old, wasn't around when John Lennon was murdered. So I can only go by what my family says about what a terrible day it was. We weren't around when Marilyn Monroe died, so that's another thing we don't know about. JFK? Nope. My mother in her mid 50's was only a little girl when it happened, so that's something REALLY not fresh in my parents memories anymore.

Not just anyone who dies is Elvis, or John Lennon, or Michael Jackson. Think of him what you will, but he was BIG the world over for practically all his life.

On an amusing note, I found it stupidly funny that people were claiming he was "upstaging" Farra's death. As if Michael woke up that morning and said; "I want to be more popular than Farrah. Let me drop dead right now and generate some GREAT publicity."

sooooo stupid.

i'm in iraq... i have a very limited selection on what i can watch for the news... i enjoy watching current events on foxnews/cnn when it's on at chow... when the 30 mins I have for chow is taken up by news of jackson dying and there is nothing else it annoys me... he sung music... he died plant him and lets go on... there wasn't this much press when Regan died and he and a much more profound affect on the world then Jackson... what i hate is how people view fame as greatness... there are many more people that are nameless to the public that have died achieving something much more important then a large bank account and paparazzi following you...

When Reagan died the news coverage was massive in ca. From the day he died, to the day he was buried, all the news Covered was him. There would be several program interruptions for lengthy news coverage. Local news stations dedicated maybe 5 to 10 mins of news to local happenings and the rest to ronnie. Must have been a CA thing.
