Hours

There's a reason why they give us so many holidays and 30 days of paid vacation a year. It's because I can not think of a single job in the civilian world that makes you work 90 to 100 hours a week for 6 months straight. We've got a month and a half left on this deployment and you can tell how being around each other every waking moment is just starting to wear on people. We're becoming more snappy and little things we could blow off in the past are just about to the point of throwing blows. I'm looking forward to taking days off and being away from Marines and everything. Tropical sounds nice, foreign and different. Another thing I've been pondering is that right now I'm in the Cradle of Civilization, the Sumerians formed the first civilization in these neck of the woods and I look around and it makes me wonder what the hell were these people thinking. I see dirt and rocks for as far as the eye can see. There are no mountains no views just some weeks and dirt. Dirt Devils and sand storms blazing hot furnace fan winds and they picked here to live. What the hell kind of shit hole did these people climb out of to decided that this is it, lets start a civilization here and call it a day? It just boggles my mind and it's something I can not grasp. This shit hole of a country is not worth fighting and dying over. But this is where they chose to make their stand.

Yesterday something actually got me, one of our birds had to do a CASEVAC. That's picking up a wounded Marine and bringing them to a hospital for treatment. They picked up some girl that was shot to hell and brought her to aide. Just a couple of hours before that bird went out flying and it was down, we fixed it bitching and moaning, and because that bird was there she was able to get to medical treatment. We made a difference for someones daughter, it's kind of cool if you think about it.
