beautiful california weather finally!! it was still a bit cool, and from what i've heard the weather is pretty nice back east too, but we're happy to finally see the sun here.
last night was our first gig at caltec. it was a lot of fun!! out of context was great, and we shared a bunch of warmups together. they were really accomodating, and their event "decompression" was AMAZING! soooo much food and a lot of people. we unfortunately encountered another vomit incident; hezzi developed some weird stomach virus ... we thought she was fine during the day, but we had to put elyse's jersey-like driving to the test once again on the freeway, before finding our way to a shady parking garage where i made the girls sing for my friend chris over the phone. rach was a sport and burped out those low notes despite her feeling like crap. we eventually found our way to "decompression" and quickly got ourselves acquainted to using microphones...one per person. all in all, a pretty sweet gig. we sold a bunch of cd's which is great, and we made friends with the caltec folks too! the only minus was rach's puking disease. she was a total trooper.
rach slept for approximately five hundred hours (unfortunately through an AWESOME dinner and dessert at grammy atkinson's house) and recovered for today, when we did our clinic/performances for elyse's high school. the women's choir was awesome...jay, their director, is truly incredible...i wish i had her during my high school years. SHE'S A BASS!!! A FRIGGIN BASS!! SHE HITS A LOW A!!! it's crazy. but i digress. the women's choir shared some warmups with us (that were really impressive, and i still can't do them) and sang a couple madrigals for us. they've got some versatile women in that group! pretty low voices for high school girls...they should come to drew and join oadn!! we did a couple songs for them, and unfortunately ran out of time before we could teach them a song.
we then sang for the gold n blues, the mixed high school choir. they didn't sing for us, but i made sure to thoroughly embarrass my new friend john in the choir by personally dedicating "wouldn't it be nice" to him. i told him i'd help him out with a new guys a capella group he was forming at the high school, so all in all it was a even trade...right? we had a lot of fun at nordhoff high, and elyse made sure to tell the students how much they should value the music education they are getting. there really is a lot of talent there...i hope many of them apply to drew!
off to bed before another big day tomorrow...early morning rotary club and then to the junior high!! ahhh, junior high...the best years of our lives.......?
stay tuned for more vomitous tour stories!

EDIT:
We also made a delicious dinner tonight for my parents and grandparents. Meliss made stuffed mushrooms in true Italian form, Helen made yummy roasted potatoes, Rachel and Rachel put together the brownie sundaes, Sigourney made delicious tilapia with seasonings, and I did the green beans! Even my granddad liked it. Neighbor Steve came by and got in trouble because he stayed and had a glass of wine, some stuffed "shrooms," and dessert. We like him.
Also, Meliss forgot to say that tomorrow night we get to see Sara Bareilles (who wrote Love On The Rocks) in Santa Barbara. Should be a good time.
