To make a long story short, I was absolutely exhausted yesterday by the time I got to Burbank for the Flanvention. I'd been up for over 24 hours, and there had been some issues as to whether the Flan was going to happen or not, and I almost didn't even bother to get on my plane. I would rather be home working for the money that I got screwed out of.
Sure enough, I got off of the plane and checked my messages. The Flan was cancelled. I was stuck in Burbank with no convention, no car, and my planned roommates were no longer staying at the Hilton, so no room either. I got my bags, and went outside for a much needed smoke, and brooded with silent infuriation. I had two options. Stay, and make the best of it, or pay $100 and leave Friday so that I can pick up some shifts at work. I decided to take the shuttle to the Hilton and see what was going on.
I pretty much made friends the second I got off of the shuttle. I LOVE BROWNCOATS! They are just the greatest bunch of people you could ever meet. I met two gals and we clicked right away. When they found out my situation, they pretty much adopted me there on the spot, and now I have new friends and a roof over my head (I really wasn't looking forward to sleeping in the airport). Maybe it wasn't going to be so bad after all.
The highlight of my evening, however, was when I found out that Adam Baldwin had shown up to talk to the fans. I guess he felt really bad about what had happened to us, and spent almost 4 hours in the bar talking to everyone and telling stories. That's why I love firefly. The actors are real people, who care more about the fans than a paycheck. So my new friend encouraged me to go talk to Adam, so I went to the bar, and he was absolutely surrounded by people. And I'm not pushy, not to mention that I am INCREDIBLY shy, so I was content to stand there and observe. I did buy him a beer, but as usual, I have horrible timing, so when I handed it to him, he said thank you, but he was leaving. So I drank it. When he came around the table on his way out, he put his arm around me, said thanks, and asked my friend to take a picture. My little girl heart went *SQUEE!!!*, though of course I kept my composure. After that he walked out, and my friend showed me the picture she just took of Adam's face and my eyes and forehead. :/ lol! One of the girls next to us said at least they would know it was me by my hair. :D
About 10 minutes later, I was outside having a smoke, and Adam walked out from the lobby. He saw me and asked me how that beer was doing, and I told him it was gone. He laughed and hung around for a few minutes talking to the other people. Then my friend showed him the picture she had taken of us, and he thought that was pretty funny. He walked over to me, put his arm around me, and crouched down enough so that we were closer to the same hight, and asked her to take another one. ^.^
He really is a fantastic guy, coming down here to talk to all of us even though he wasn't getting paid for it. And he also informed us that this Saturday, Nathan Fillion, as well as possibly Summer Glau and Maurina Bacarin will be stopping by to hang out with all of us. Yay!
So even though BE completely bolloxed everything up, it has turned out to be quite the weekend so far. There may not be a convention, but there are hundreds of other Browncoats here who are all in good spirits, and having a blast. Most of us are going down to the Santa Monica Pier today, and possibly Universal Studios. Who knows. I'm game for anything, cause I'm on vacation, gorramit!! XD
BE is holding an 'Announcement Meeting' at 11, so I should go get ready (what do you where to a meeting where they're going to tell you you've been duped?). I will keep you all posted.
Stay Shiny!
