Another drabble

"Harry, you told me you'd figured the egg out weeks ago!" Hermione leaned against the railing and blew the air out of her nose. "The task is two days from now."

"Really? I had no idea. I suppose Viktor's already figured it out." Harry ran a hand through his black hair. He placed his forehead on the cool wood and sighed. He couldn't believe he had waited to the very last minute to figure out the clue hidden within the golden egg. Every time he opened the egg, the unearthly shriek came forth. Hermione sniffed.

"I wouldn't know, we didn't actually talk about the tournament. Actually we didn't really talk at all, Viktor's more of a physical being." Harry snorted. She slapped his arm and her hard expression eased. "I just mean he's not particularly... mostly he watches me study. It's a bit annoying actually. You are trying to figure this egg out aren't you?"

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Something in Hermione's eyes changed. She stared off in the direction of the Black Lake. Large wooden towers were being magically erected over the dark waters, each of the competitor's school colors whipping in the February breeze. Her hair, though pulled back, still moved in the wind. Harry could hear her voice fill with emotion.

"I mean these tasks are supposed to test you, in the most brutal way. They're almost cruel. And um…I'm scared for you. You got by the dragon mostly on nerve, I'm not sure it's going to be enough this time."

"Hermione." Harry watched her and moved closer, pulling her to his chest. Over the crown of her head, he could see Cedric Diggory making his way down the bridge. The Hufflepuff pretty-boy seemed about to catch Harry's attention when Cho and her gaggle of girls appeared, sweeping him off the bridge and onto the school grounds. Hermione sobbed.

"I see you, throwing yourself into danger after danger. It's always been like this, ever since First Year. The Sorcerer's Stone, the Chamber of Secrets, Sirius. This tournament is just one more attempt on your life. And I can't stand by and..." Hermione sniffed into his shoulder. "I won't stand by and let you die."

It seemed as though the two were the only students on the bridge, the others having found their way to dinner. They stayed there, in each other's embrace, for the better part of ten minutes. It was Hermione pulled away first.

"Oh-look at me," She sniffed. "Carrying on like that. I'm just being silly. Let's go to dinner, Harry."

"'Mione, one thing?"

Hermione turned back, her brow furrowing. "Yes, Harry?"

Harry quickly close the gap and pressed his lips against her own. Hermione placed her hands on either side of his face while Harry's arms wrapped around her waist, keeping her close. When they pulled apart, for air more than anything, their lips were puffy and dry.

"I'm not going anywhere."
