We've returned from Toronto--it was a complete blast. To make it short and sweet:
* The Blue Jays won all 3 games while we were in town.
* Lyle had a couple of hits while we were there, but no record-setting 20th home run. Luckily, that came (followed by #21, a few more doubles, and a 15-game hitting streak) just one week later. Congratulations!!!
* We made a sign that read "Milwaukee Misses You Lyle" that I brought to the game on Saturday. I hung out by the dugout for about an hour and finally Lyle came out. He saw the sign, laughed, and came over. He asked how we liked Toronto and if we got to do any sight-seeing. I'm pretty sure he had no idea who I was, and I'm fine with that. He was featured on the cover of the Blue Jays program so I bought one and he signed it. I also asked if I could get a picture with him and he agreed... which naturally made me the happiest person on the planet. I was at a loss for words (what generally happens when I'm talking to someone I'm a huge fan of) but told him we brought our "O's." In my excitement, I forgot the program he had signed but luckily I remembered just as a kid was bringing it to me. Later during the game, as Lyle ended the inning by making a play at first, he came towards the dugout to throw the ball into the stands. I held up my O and he threw the ball directly at us--Matt caught the ball. What a great souvenir.
* To the fans in Toronto: it was fun! Maybe not as rowdy as in Milwaukee, but I was glad to see some kids with big poster board O's. And a few of us attempted the O-Chant.
I'll possibly post a picture or two sometime in the near future, but this will probably be the end of this short-lived fansite. Well, okay, maybe after the season is over since both Lyle and the Blue Jays are doing excellent. The playoffs are out of the picture but as of today the Jays are just half a game out of 2nd place after shutting out the Red Sox, 5-0. Wouldn't it be great to see Toronto take 2nd?
Another big thank you to those who left comments. Lyle is one of those underrated guys who deserves tons of fan support. Feel free to keep leaving messages. Maybe I'll do my homework and make a better website sometime.
To Mr. Overbay,
If you ever get to see this website, have yourself a good laugh and know you've got fans. Best of luck to you and your team--I'm sure Toronto would love to see you back in a Blue Jays uniform next year. But for the record, I don't think we would mind seeing you back in Milwaukee. One of these years the Brewers play the Jays again... count us in.
(For a more in-depth story about our trip to Toronto (aka the boring one), I'll be posting on my original, personal LiveJournal page, zeromeanszero.livejournal.com.)
