Order of the Phoenix and Ordering of the book...

First off, happy birthday to tundraeternal who is all kinds of fantastic! Hope you have a lovely day!

So, I'm sure you're all sick of OotP posts, but I was late seeing it and I so want to join in! I had to see the dentist instead, and I didn't want it to spoil my excitement so I went on Saturday night when the horror was well and truly over and I could finally look forward to the film. Incidentally folks, no fillings! Eeeee! And I hadn't been for about 7 years. Oops indeed. But Yay!

So reading this back to myself it seems like I hated the film, but I didn't! I had a super time! And I made a HP related joke during the adverts that made the man in front almost choke on his drink. I was so proud!

Loved

I have so much love for Filch. Seriously, so, so much love. He totally made the film! When he was waiting outside the room with his sandwiches?! Hee! And the candy love hearts almost killed me, bless him, he was so happy! If they'd been any other kind of sweet it wouldn't have worked but...oh, the mirth! And the tall ladder of doom, when he was wibbling all over the place! I heart Filch so much. I love how he runs. Oh...just everything about him. I really hope he's the 'non-magical person' JKR mentions in regards to book 7, I really do have some much pity for him. I bet she means Grawp though :/...

...who was actually quite likeable! I was dreading meeting him, but the bit with the bike handles was cute.

Lupin in the photo was wonderful. Tank top and shaggy hair ahoy!

Ron was awesome as always, but was finally given the opportunity to shine! And I loved Neville with all my heart. Mr Weasley just gets more fantastic. I love Mark Williams! I almost cried when he was all bloodied and bruised with a Christmas hat on ;__;.

The picture of Fudge on the huge canvas at the Ministry was amazing. I loved that. As was the flight across London on brooms (despite the lack of Lupin!)

I liked the costumes much better in this film, even Hermione was joining the Weasley's crazy knitwear clique. Banish that pink PoA hoodie forever!

Was That Fenrir I spied with the other Death Eaters? Cool!

I liked Snape in the 'worst memory' part, it was all just a little short, but quite brilliantly done I thought!

Hated

(Even though I still loved the film! And I know they have to cut stuff out! Part of my degree was film adaptation!)

I hated how all the tension was totally removed from the story - there was no fear that Mr Weasley might die, no horrendous night sat around the table in Grimmauld Place with heads in hands. "Mr Weasley has been attacked. Mr Weasley is OK." Consequently no moving scene in the hospital with Neville and the chewing-gum-wrapper-of-love (and we must presume that Lockhart won't end up being Voldy's grocer or shoe supplier or something equally essential to the plot!) Plus, Harry knew Sirius was dead as soon as he FLOATED off through the veil, I liked the doubt in the book, I liked how he thought he could just drag him back out. They missed out all the ways that Sirius' death was needless, the 2-way mirror and Harry not trying in his lessons with Snape (more on these later), Kreacher lying (I'd assumed that Kreacher was kept in the story especially for that part, but clearly not - either the film's been edited to death, or he's the house elf on Harrys back on the front cover of Book 7). It just kind of took away the tragedy of his death a little.

I seem to be the only one, apart from Jim who was sat next to me, who hated the Voldemortisinmyhead scene near the end. I thought that was utter shit. In the book Harry gave up, he wanted to die! It undermined how awesome Dumbledore was in that fight, like....it was Harry who actually beat Voldemort in the end - WTF? I hate Harry though, so...

It felt like they glossed over all Harry's bad points in this film. He is SO hateful in OotP, but it all seemed to be missed out. There was hardly any CAPSLOCK!harry(but phew for that really!), there was none of his stupid forgetting of the 2-way mirror (guess that won't be coming in useful in book 7 then! Either that or they'll have to crowbar it in like Mrs Figg!), none of his laziness in learning Occlumency, no smashing up of Dumbledore's office. The list goes on. Iron iron iron out those Harry shaped creases!

Moody stole all Lupin's lines! The only line I actually wanted to hear him say was the one about wizards losing buttocks. And he didn't :(. He also acted like he was Professor Moody, like he'd known Harry all the previous year = bullshit. The only solace I could take from the Lupin situation (like most of my flist) was the whole R/S slash of them staying home together instead.

Why the hell was Neville clutching his (rather disturbingly pulsating) Mimbulus mimbletonia at the start? All the later scenes were obviously edited out. Incongruity abounds! Why is Neville understudying for Dobby all the time lately (finding the Gillyweed, then the RoR?), and clearly no one would have any idea why Tonks can mysteriously change the shape of her nose at will either. Edit edit edit.

I thought Dumbledore brought the fountain to life? I was looking forward to that! Boo!

I didn't like the new Death Eater masks.

I loved the floating down of the Death Eaters during the GoF graveyard scene, but it seemed over used in this...I thought I was watching Lost at one point...

Jim was sad there was no portable swamp.

I'm sure I'll think of other things to say but this will have to do for now

Order of The Book...

So yesterday we went to order Jim a copy of Book 7 at Waterstones (they're having a party, yays!) The poor employee who served us was shaking, I don't know if it was his first day, but he offered Jim a 'Save Harry' badge, who flatly refused it saying "I can't take that on principle, because I'm hoping he dies," and although I don't quite agree I found myself nodding and saying "Yep." The poor shaky Waterstones employee laughed though, which was what Jim had intended, I think, to cheer him up. I still felt bad as we walked out of the shop though, like we were The Lestranges or something. Talking about it later we both decided that it would be a brave, fantastic, unexpected move on JKR's part if she did kill Harry. Even though I'm not bothered either way although I probably will cry if he does die, actually, even though he's one of my least favourite characters. How fantastic is it she can create a world I love so much that it doesn't matter if I dislike the hero?
