Snowpocalypse Now!

Dec 01, 2010 22:32

Remember last night when I said that I wasn't sure I'd be able to open the gate today? Well..

I COULDN'T OPEN THE GATE TODAY.

I have never seen anything like this. Never!

Snow everywhere. Up to the windows in places! I just couldn't believe my eyes when I first looked out of the window this morning. I telephoned work and the library wasn't being opened, so it was a guilt free snow day!

I'm sorry to be a bore, I know plenty of you have really hard winters, but Britain hasn't had snow like this for about thirty years, so it's the first time I've seen it! We had a lot of snow during the 80s and I'm always so nostalgic for that time, so yesterday and today I have been beyond happy, all tucked up inside with my parents and my dog. ♥

This is the car that belongs to the man across the street. We don't know his name, but his dog is called Sonny, so he is known to us as "Sonny's Dad." Sonny's Dad did not go to work today.

This sight really took me straight back to my childhood, I remember seeing icicles like this every winter, but hadn't seen them for years. Merlin was sat on the window ledge when they cracked and fell off, I've never heard such a bark!

This was the first thing I saw when I stepped out of my bedroom this morning, snow drifted all the way up past the bathroom window! Also, we can usually see over that wall into our neighbour's garden!

Here's our back garden, it was unbelievably deep there, I guess it's open to the winds.

A chilly and windswept Merlin ventured out for a morning wee. He had to leap through the snow like a dolphin!

My Mum and I dug a path to the road, so I could take Merlin out for his walk. As you can see the snow is definitely up to my thigh! Also, behold my new coat! :D (also, that's not a new hair cut, just had it fastened back to aid my shovelling!)

Here's the view from where I was standing. I can't believe how much of the gate was covered!

Here's my Mum as we finally reached the road! Luckily it's a pretty major route, so it had been gritted and ploughed. Haha! I just spotted Merlin in the window! Can you see his white legs? He lays on the window ledge on the left ALL THE TIME, it's his spot.

There were only a few cars passing by and the pavements were too deep to wade through, so people were just walking in the road! Hordes of them! All heading towards the supermarket in the next village, taking sledges to carry their shopping back! It was like Armageddon. So eerie!

Anyway, at this point we went inside to warm our hands around mugs of tea and before I had the chance to walk Merlin the blue skies disappeared and the snow returned! My village is ancient (first written about in 1002) and really pretty, so the next few pictures are so much nicer! Thanks for sticking with me!

Everything looked so beautiful, just like a Christmas card!

Here are the railings through the churchyard, I walk down here every night, but it's never looked as magical as this.

Most of the gravestones were completely buried. You can see the snow falling against the church windows -- so pretty! That part of the church dates from about 1150 :)

Here's the whole church, the trees looked so beautiful!

This is a side view of The Alms House, built by two sisters in 1752 to provide shelter for six poor parishioners.

I was just grinning from ear to ear during this whole walk. So glad I'd managed to leave the house and see all this!

Merlin couldn't see much at all, though!

These are two beautiful cottages just down the road from me, they were built for miners in the 1800s. I love their windows!

And here's my poor little house being swallowed by the snow! Mine is the part on the right (I had to think about that, I'm dreadful with my left and right!).

It hasn't snowed much more today, but they've forecast some more for tomorrow! All day! :-O

- PS. If you'd like a Christmas card, please leave me a comment over here! :D
