"You don't miss your water till your well runs dry"

Aug 06, 2010 14:08

Woah, it's been a while since I updated.

I guess that for over a month I've been planning to post about all the finales I've watched recently...but, as good as they were, they all depressed me thoroughly. "I always cry at endings" as Belle & Sebastian sagely sang, but...I don't know...Doctor Who and LOST pressed the same 'DO NOT PRESS' button inside my brain and I sobbed and sobbed. So I guess I didn't want to talk about that (I'll write about it eventually in a post entitled "o_deanna's Spiritual Bullshit"). And then FlashFoward was cancelled and I was even sadder. So I guess fandom was a bit of a minefield for me!

Oh, it's so nice to be back. I get so silly and scared to post when I haven't updated for a while. I missed you all so very much. I've tried to catch up with your journals as best as I can over the past week or so, but let me know if I've missed something important. I hope you're all well and happy! I know some of you are going through a hard time just now, so much love to you. ♥

Anyway, here's a quick update on me.

1) Merlin has a modelling contract. Haha! He's doing a photoshoot for a car dealership here in Derbyshire sometime this month. He will be herding toy sheep! XD

2) I am watching Battlestar Galactica and I am loving it. Almost at the end of Season 2 now. Also watching Sherlock which is brilliant. I've heard some complaints about the way the Sherlock/John has been handled. WAT? They just met! They have an instant bond! It's beautiful! Don't ruin it by wanting them to be engaged already.

3) On twitter I'm doing something called #DailyAlienPicture! I asked kids who visit my library to draw an alien. Obviously the results are amusing and astounding in equal measures. Would you be interested in seeing a weekly round up posted on my LJ, you non-twittering folk?

4) I had to have a medical assessment by a doctor yesterday. She came to my house to write a report on whether I was eligible for Disability Living Allowance. It was pretty intimidating :-\. I need to write a reference post about my illnesses really, I'm very conscious of the fact that you all know I walk my dog and go geocaching and stuff. This is for a lower entitlement of DLA, it's less to do with mobility (although I do struggle with that too at times) and more to do with coping in the house: opening jars, pulling on jumpers, climbing stairs, carrying heavy pans, y'know?

5) I have some art/craft/fanmix stuff to post, but I'll do that in a separate update.

Haven't taken many photos lately, but here's what I have!

We saw this tree at Clumber Park whilst we were geocaching. It looked so much like a dragon that I had to take a photo. I didn't really manage to capture the true wonder of this thing, but there you go, you can see it's head and neck at least!

Another cool tree at Clumber! Completely dead with a crow sat atop it. Although distance dictates that you will have to imagine the crow.

Oh! I took this in the graveyard in my village to show slightlytookish! I told her there were some graves there that always made me think of the way that Cathy/Edgar/Heathcliff were buried. Of course there's an extra grave here. I like to think it's Joseph. Haha.

I'm not sure if I like this photo or not, but it looks cool and foreign, I guess.

So, this kinda links in with the alien thing. Our theme in the library this summer is space, so obviously I MADE A TARDIS! It's not as wonky as it looks, a plague upon you, perspective!

What the hell is this spider? I've never seen anything like it! IT GLOWED! D: D: D:

Every year our village has a Well Dressing. It's a really ancient custom where pictures are made from petals and placed to decorate the water source in the village. I love how pagan it all seems, even though the pictures depict biblical scenes these days. It's funny, I grew up thinking this happened everywhere, but it's mostly just a Derbyshire thing apparently! Anyway, here it is, displayed near the church. Oh, I almost forgot! Some of the flowers from our garden are in this picture! :D

And here's a smaller picture down by the actual well. They used to have the larger display here, I'm not sure why they've moved it in recent years. This is actually the emblem for my old primary school! :)

And a better shot of the actual well. One day I really must make a video of all the pretty features in my village, it's just beautiful and dates back to the Domesday Book.

Obviously we shall finish on a Merlin picspam! I took these a few weeks ago when we were stuck outdoors on a really hot day. Merlin was a winter puppy, so this is his first summer. Let's just say he's not keen.

Sniffing a petal! ♥

So fed up.

Those long bits of fur on his skinny legs get me every time! I love how it looks like he's wearing pantaloons.

I think this one should go in Merlin's portfolio. It looks like an aftershave advert to me, all angles. IDEK.

I don't know what happened to make this such a soft focus shot of everything except his eyes. He'd actually cut his nose here, I don't know if you can see...

Here it is scabbing over. We think he scuffed it whilst burying a bone!

We were worried it was going to scar! My poor little scraggleface! But it's all healed shiny and black again now.

I won't leave it so long before posting next time. ♥
