Thank you for all the kind birthday wishes on here and on Twitter, it meant a lot to me! I had such a wonderful day with three of my favourite people in the world:
squeaky_the_pin,
marcusjjordan and Jim. They all gave me the most amazing presents and made me very happy indeed. And I even got a new Doctor for my birthday (although, y'know, I hadn't specifically asked for one)! So yes, presents, Doctor Who and murdering Shins songs on Rock Band, it was a great day!
Amongst these...
An amazing sampler sewn by
squeaky_the_pin, seriously, look at this thing, it is epic.
Just...wow! I love it. And best of all, in making this wondrous item,
squeaky_the_pin has become friends with my dearest
fera_festiva and become hooked on Merlin. Amazing! Please excuse the wonky angle, I was trying to avoid a flash reflection on the glass!
And here it is almost in situ! I still need to put a nail up there. Seriously, thank you so much,
squeaky_the_pin, I adore it! And you.
I also got this little knight from my Mum, I think he's adorable! Look at him, slaying that foul beast of the air! He came in an egg and was my Easter present. :)
Other items of note:
- A tiny, gorgeous, Polaroid printer that DOES NOT NEED INK OR WIRES! WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?!
- A Neil Gaiman book I didn't even know existed! I'm a bad fan! D:
- An amazing brass lantern that looks like it could be used to lure sailors to an unsuspecting death on the rocks.
- A movie that
marcusjjordan found based on a pair of my favourite socks. Haha! If you are intrigued, he wrote a blog about them! - The complete series of Sherlock Hound, which I'm not sure is completely healthy for me to watch. It combines three of my favourite things; anthropomorphic dogs, Sherlock Holmes (we're talking old school Holmes here, still haven't seen the new movie!) and Hayao Miyazaki. If ever anything were to tip me headlong into furry fandom; it's this. I say this like I'm not already crushing on him. And like I'm not already an enormous furfag for them.
- Equally worrying, Wolf's Rain, which I've now watched the first episode of and which is awesome.
- Games! Farenheit, which I can't wait to play, we've all been enjoying Heavy Rain on
marcusjjordan's PS3 and this is an earlier game by the same developer :D! And Lost in Blue 3, which I think I might play in bed tonight, if I ever finish this blog. - A gorgeous owl bookmark, a book of the most amazing fabric transfers, some ROBOT MAGNETS!, a Davros mug XD, a ring which is identical to Maid Marion's engagement ring (shut up!) from Disney's Robin Hood, y'know, the little pink flower? Some lovely bracelets and a little broach shaped like a WWI rifle.
- And so much else besides...!
I also saw one of my other friends today (after I'd arranged all my presents in the earlier photos! Argh!) and she gave me the most gorgeous Moomin bag...
...some pretty hair slides and the most amazing broach you could ever imagine. Now, something rather comical happened when I tried to take this photo, let's play a little bit of 'spot the difference'...
HAHAHAHAHA! I have a nosey dog.
And so it goes.
XD. I love him.
How fitting that as I write this, I am eating the last piece of my birthday cake.
And, so, seeing as it aired on the anniversary of my birth, I shall treat you to my thoughts on Doctor Who, which are (ETA: not so) brief, because surely I'm too late for anyone to actually still care!
So, I'll admit it, I was a hater...aaaaaaand I have so many words to eat that I shall never go hungry again!
Eleven was amazing. I don't know why I even doubted it, I mean I love Steven Moffat, so why didn't I trust him? Eleven was just such a breath of fresh air. I'm sure you can all recall me
sobbing on the bathroom floor when we said goodbye to Ten, but it was such a relief to be rid of the angst that followed him around towards the end. y'know? This whole thing has felt like having to have a beloved dog put to sleep due to some horrendous ailment...and then buying a new puppy. I don't know. I wish all the angst had been Nine/Rose and Ten had been new and shiny and written by Moffat, but that didn't happen and now we have Eleven and that's cool too :D!
Little Amelia was just too adorable (PRAYING TO SANTA!) and Adult Amy was to die for...asdkkajsf;lksajf! OK, so my thoughts on Amy aren't so brief. Here, have a separate paragraph.
I'll admit it, I have a problem with companions. I won't even try to deny the fact that it is borne of jealousy. It's just...the Doctor could've chosen anyone, absolutely anyone to be his companion, and he chose Donna? And Rose? I don't buy it*. WHY DIDN'T HE CHOOSE ME INSTEAD? But Amy Pond? Amy Pond deserves the Doctor's friendship and the amazing adventures because she waited. And she's beautiful. And charming. And Scottish. And I nearly cried when she was sat there on her suitcase ;__;. I already want Eleven/Amy, theirloveissohistoric! GTFO River Song.
My favourite moment in the whole show was when Prisoner Zero turned into Eleven and Eleven said "Well that's rubbish, who's that supposed to be?" AMAZING. Just amazing. Comedy Timing.
And best of all? The plot made sense! See you later, RTD! So, the coma patients chanting 'Doctor!' was surely a piss-take of Last of the Time Lords, right? Also, there is intelligent life on this planet outside of modern day London? Who knew!? \o/ I'm looking forward to seeing a few more locations this time around.
So, yes. The best birthday present I could've asked for really. To be proved horribly, horribly wrong and to be glad about it.
*I know, I know, it's probably because they're so human and ordinary. Or something. I remember liking Ace when I was five. Ahahaha.
Please don't be cross that I don't like Donna. DDDDDDDD:.
