So, I read an editorial in the New York Times today by Maureen Dowd.
NYT Article: Men Just Want Mommy If you can't access the link, or don't feel like reading the whole thing, let me paraphrase:
Basically, the article says that a lot of educated, intelligent men are still entering into relationships with women who are in positions subordinate to them. (And thus, women who make less money than they do.) The reverse of this is that women still seem to favor men who have more power than them. Relationships between equals seem to be on the out.
Although maybe they aren't going out of style; maybe relationships between intellectual equals never were in style? Maybe I just had this fairy tale going on in my head fed by movies and books and too much feminist theory.
While historically it makes sense that people would favor a person of equal status and ability, I'd like to think that the guys I know and have dated want to be with someone who is their equal... they want a partner and a friend as well as someone to screw.
But, what the hell do I know???
