A shift in direction

Jul 17, 2006 00:21

There were many shifts in directions that i have faced today and last night. A nice reprive in all of this was that i went to mount raupheu today for go snowboarding. After finding out that the weather condition wasn't that favourable with 40-60 kph wind gusts with overcast conditions which would be worst at the top of the mountain we decided to take a risk and go anyways. After intense rain over the napier taupo road we reached taupo and the skies were as blue as can be, it was great. We walked around for a while along the beach and skipped a couple of stones and created ripples in the silky blue water which felt satistifying.

After 4 hours on the road due to weather. I saw the mountain it was beautiful, there were two mountains beside each other. There were no trees on the mountain because it was a volcano. I searched for the gusts of wind that was reported on the news, so i gazed across the brown and green tundra below the mountain and saw the wind moving across the plain as like the flax plants were bowing to the wind as it passed. It reminded me of the days i used to bike to the country side where the grass was as tall as my knees and i used to run to the middle and lie there to feel the wind dancing around me and to see it teasing the grass as it moves by, it was great. As we came closer to the mountain it was so white, we gazed to the horizon behind us and you could literally see for hundreds of kilometers. I basically saw the lush green land with the hills in the distance and the hills behind those hills and so on.

The snowboarding was great. The powder was absolutely fabulous. I have never been in such great powder. Going off the track meant being stuck in powder up to my waist so i tried not to wander too far away from society, but it was great just to be "free" feel the wind against my face and only hearing one sound, which was the carving of my board as it sliced through the snow. Oh and the occasional tumble that i suffered when i totally was out of it and caught a edge. The greatest feeling was looking back up the mountain and seeing only your tracks though the snow.

More about the snow boarding trip later .. i'm sleepy :)
