since meg started a theme of writing about each long run, i'll do the same thing. i hope you other ladies join in so we can amp each other to keep going!

i too did my 10km run today. for all long runs i'm continuing to do the run 10min walk 1min idea. on the 9km run i struggled with this a bit as my body wasn't used to a) running and b) stopping once i got my running in a steady flow. but today was a lot better. i think because i was more prepared and i wasn't looking at my watch as often as last week. so, anyway, so off i went. for the first few km's i struggled with my breathing because it was so stinkin hot out. but after awhile i got the hang of it. my music definitely helped pull me through. it helped having the granville st bridge as the half way point because i could see it in the distance and talk myself into carrying on. megan reached the half way point and turned around about 6 minutes ahead of me and when we crossed paths again we high fived each other. lots of people smiled at it when they saw us do that. that simple high five helped me get a boost and carry on. the second half my legs felt pretty heavy and my pace felt slow, but according to my watch i actually didn't slow down. when i had about 1.5km left in the run i was behind a man who was probably about 45-50 years old. he was looking around and didn't notice a massive concrete block that had been abandoned on the sidewalk. he ended up face planting the ground right in front of me. i stopped to help him up and make sure everything was okay. i think he was more shaken up and embarrassed than actually injured. he was pretty annoyed with there being debris on the sidewalk. so i moved the stuff off the sidewalk, checked to make sure he was okay and carried on. this obviously slowed my time down a bit, but whatever. my big "yay me" moment was the fact that i ran all the way up ash street. it's actually not much of a hill but enough for me to think it might be pushing my legs too far. today i was feeling strong so i trudged my way up there. i was proably breathing like i was dying, but whatever. it was good.

once home i did a ton of stretching and sweating. THEN when i came home i filled the bath with cold water, dumped a bunch of ice cubes in and climbed in. i sat in there for 10 minutes and drank my gatorade. it could have been colder. next long run i'm going to buy a bag of ice from the grocery store. the more ice the better and more effective. i'm willing to put myself through that discomfort if it means healing up my muscles quicker.

i also carried a water bottle with a strap on it in my hands for the run. i won't be doing that again. i found i was tensing my hand up too much around the bottle even though i didn't need to. i kept having to remind myself to relax. so, i think i'm going to invest in a camelback. fuel belts don't work for me because they bounce around a lot and are just uncomfortable. so camelback should do the trick. just a small girl's one. i'll be checking out canadian tire on friday i think. i know nicole has one that is smaller and fits comfortably on the back without being a nuissance so i think that'll be the way to go!

i think that's it for my running post! time to go sit in the hot tub!!!
