I’m delighted to see that the complete box-set of Angel is coming out very soon, especially as (gasp!) I have seen very few episodes of that show. (I’m guessing 10-15, total.) I’ve read all the twop recaps, and a bunch of meta over here on the show too, so I’m pretty familiar with the source, but I’m so looking forward to the whole experience, which I imagine will be more likely to make me fall in love the with characters rather than just follow their stories with interest. Also, it will be a great alternative to Buffy - I want to have a big break from the show, and hopefully lose some of the familiarity so in a year or so I can have a little of the magic back.
Also, I had the pleasure of attending an Over The Rhine concert on Saturday night, as part of the NZ Arts festival. They played a gorgeous set, with songs I was familiar with from Drunkard's Prayer and Ohio, as well as a few others I presumed were older, and a recently written on including the sly line: "....trouble// Your sexy cock.... tail hour stubble", which made me giggle. The lead singer (I don't know their names!) was utterly charming on stage, and her voice gave me goosebumps, and the piano was quite spectacular live - it was the first time I'd noticed how integral it is to the songs. They did a few pieces which came off a bit more soul/jazzy, with long jams in the middle too, it was a great show. The venue was amazing - a marquee, but you'd never know it. It had a chandelier, wooden/stained glass panels & frames, and lovely plush booths. I was a little bold & snagged a spot for friend & I in a booth near the stage rather than in the regular seats, and it really added to the experience - very comfy & chic!
