I always thought that Autumn was the time of year when our temperatures are supposed to start to cool off, but last week we had a return to summer weather, with days into the 30's and clear blue skies and wall-to-wall sunshine. I prefer the cooler weather. However, it seems that every weekend off I get (and I don't get too many of them), it decides to cloud over and usually rains. This weekend fell into that well rehearsed pattern, but we're not ones to sit and be miserable about it. Our friend Nic returned from his trip to America, so Friday evening he came over and we had a meal and went through his thousands of pics. Makes me want to be going away soon (we are, in 2 weeks)!
Saturday we opted to go out for the day, and headed south, past the Gold Coast to a small place called Currumbin. This beach is in the shadow of the highly developed Surfers Paradise. The clouds hung low in the sky but somehow we managed to avoid any rain. Andrew drove.
And Nic did silly things with his hands above Andrew's head! When he was caught out he played all innocent, sitting in the back like a naughty boy!
Hmmm! Butter wouldn't melt in his mouth!
We took our shorts and towels and despite the greyness of the day, had a good swim in the ocean. The water was 24c, and really nice. There were some large crashing waves that were just too strong for body-surfing, all of us getting dumped numerous times. I have to say it was hilarious watching the others getting swallowed up by massive surf, until I got bowled over and winded!
