We are blessed with some beautiful natural forests and parkland all within an hour or so of Brisbane. There are small pockets of bushland, large National Parks, sub-tropical forests, mountains and an abundance of wildlife. Springbrook National park (click tag for previous postings) is just over an hour south, nestled in the hinterland above the Gold Coast. The two areas rub shoulders and couldn't be more different if they tried; the Gold Coast of Surfer's Paradise is high-rise and frenetic. Springbrook is a peaceful oasis in the ancient volcanic hills, interspersed with waterfalls, deep gorges and ravines. Take time, stand still for a moment to fine tune your senses and you will be rewarded with glorious and strange birdsong, water changing from a drip-drip to a tumbling waterfall, flowers and lizards, wallabies and insects.
