The Land of Waterfalls and Lookouts

After the heavy rains over the Easter weekend, it has been glorious with clear sunny days, low humidity and temps about 26c. Just beautiful autumn weather. It seemed the perfect time to make a trip to Springbrook National Park, 110kms south of Brisbane, in the Gold Coast hinterland. It's an ancient landscape of subtropical and temperate rainforest covering ranges and plateaus.

So, armed with walking shoes, food, drink, the GPS and my camera I set off. My main destination was the magnificent Purlingbrook Falls. The brook was flowing fast and the 105m cascade was spectacular.

Rising to a height of more than one kilometre Springbrook dominates the western skyline of the Gold Coast. It's geological origins date back to the vast shield volcano that was last active 10 million years ago. This is the view from 'Best of All Lookout'

There is so much to see in this area and I'm sure that I'll be making another visit soon. Andrew was impressed when he saw the photos and seems keen to explore some of the places...can't wait! (I'm trying to decide if I should tell him about the steep climb back up from the falls).
