Another anniversary...

It was a exactly one year ago today that I moved to Olympia! I only realized it when I went downtown, and saw that they had this big ship/marina festival going on that I remember from last year. Happy September first, everyone.
I've done absolutely nothing to celebrate the anniversary, aside from going out to breakfast with Katie. We went to the Blue Lotus Cafe downtown, which reminds me (achingly so) of Boulder's many cafes. Delicious, organic, and overpriced entrees, big windows with natural sunlight, Buddhist paraphenlia on the walls, lots of benches with pillows, huge tea selections...
I miss Boulder sometimes. It sneaks up on me in weird ways; on the rare days of dry heat and sun, sitting in a cafe with bright yellow walls and tonka paintings, looking at the woefully neglected letter journal I've yet to send back to Carly...
One year that I've been gone. At the time, I couldn't wait to leave. My last week there was a nightmare, honestly. Everyone was asking me why I hadn't left yet, and I think a few of them were doubting I'd leave at all. Then there was the disastrous drunken going-away party. *eyeroll* Anyway. I guess I don't miss it that much. All my affection for Boulder is tainted with exasperation at its population. Hippies, millionaire liberals, dharma brats, and over-privileged frat dudes and sorority girls. Urgh.
I think I'm going to go downtown to the boat festival. Maybe they'll still have those booths with the free massages and chiropractic consults.

Oh, and also. Yesterday, I borrowed a book from B & N called World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. It's written by Max Brooks, the same guy who made the zombie survival guide. Holy crap, it's good. I stayed awake until almost 3:30 in the morning reading it, and then was kind of scared to fall asleep. Anybody who likes a good, dark, apocalyptical novel should give it a read.

i heart the west coast, recommendation, boulder is weird, olympia is weird
