Gone, but not forgotten.

I think it's time to reflect on the events that occurred on this day, three years ago. I was a freshman in high school, and in Spanish Class when someone asked if the World Trade Center and the Twin Towers were the same thing. I thought that was an odd question to ask, but then our teacher said that the two planes had crashed into the World Trade Center. I just thought that a pilot had veered off course. I had no clue what had happened. I also had no clue how many people were harmed, and how many families were effected. Once I realized how serious this was, I couldn't help but have mixed emotions. I was sad, sad for the families who had lost loved ones. I was mad, mad that so many people were lost because of terrorism. Most of all, I was confused. Why would someone do something like that?

I remember a nation coming together. Everyone wore American flag shirts, and ribbons, and became patriotic. People had flags on their cars, and flags outside of their homes. There was no difference between people, young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, we were all Americans. On that day, everyone was a New Yorker, a Pennsylvanian, or a resident of Washington DC. We came together. Candlelight Vigils were a nightly occurence. We said prayers for our loved ones, and for those affected by this tragedy.

Let us not forget all those who were lost on September 11th. Let us not forget those who lost their lives to protect us. Although many people have been lost, they have not been forgotten.
