becuase i know a lot of you are hitchhikers guide to the galaxy fans i am posting the introduction to my paper where i mention douglas adams in comparison to dostoevsky:

On of the most cliché questions asked is “what is the meaning of life?” Many people devote themselves to finding out the answer to this question. Sometimes they find the answer in religion, sometimes from a life changing event. Douglas Adams asks this question in his book, “The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy” and at the end of the book informs the reader that the answer is in fact simply the number 42. Dostoevsky address the question of the meaning of life in his short story “The Dream of a Ridiculous Man” by discussing Truth in life. The protaganist of the story, Thr Ridiculous man, searches for the Truth in life and finds it. The ridiculous man changes even before he has the dream that “revealed the Truth” (724) to him. At that point, he stops asking himself questions and ceases to think about life. He accepts life having no meaning as the Truth. Then after his dream he accepts that loving your neighbor as yourself is the truth. He just accepts a different truth then he did before the dream.
