Hmmm. I've been seeing this meme around and have really enjoyed reading what some of my favorite authors have to say about their writing and their processes - the details have been fascinating and the frankness has been admirable. But I haven't felt comfortable about commenting to others unless I also have the nerve to do the meme myself. So, I'll ( Read more... )

This was such a treat to read. Though the self-knowledge (on the strengths and weaknesses sections especially) was a little intimidating, frankly. I skipped those questions when I did mine. *sheepish smile*

As I was telling moondagny recently, your editing process and beta work is really amazing.

A dirty little secret from me, while we're being honest? I stopped partway through "Effigy" because it creeped me out. Which is remarkable for me, because I read even the most amateur fics all the way through once I've started. *runs and hides*

Thanks for posting! Maggie

Whoops, sorry, "editing process and beta work *are* amazing." The irony here isn't lost on me, not to worry. *smile*

And facial scars for Remus? *raises eyebrows*

If we all put our comments through a beta process, authors would never get any f/b at all! Too true.

And about the scars....well, better than the moustache, I suppose. *smile* I completely understand your reasoning here. I also like the complementary way these two characters can be developed--it's why they're so good together--and I really like the parallel between social estrangement on Remus' part and family estrangement on Sirius'. Plus the idea of Sirius not being especially happy with the way he looks--which I remember first encountering in your stories--has completely taken over, and I can hardly imagine him any other way now.

LOL! I've intimidated you AND creeped you out? Oh, dear, I don't mean to be an ogre ( ... )

No, no, the intimidation is a good thing. I'm normally a big fan of seeing things as they are and stating them as clearly as possible--which you're wonderful at doing generally, by the way--but sometimes I'm reluctant to turn that same kind of attention on myself. Good for you for being clear-sighted about your own strengths and weaknesses.

And about "The Effigy," I'm glad that you didn't take offence. I figured I didn't need to add that I've read your other stories multiple times and it had to do with the subject matter and not with you. *smile* You know that, right?

I also was thinking about your best and worst comment and wanted to add that I really loved "The Shape of His Hands." For whatever it's worth--and I know I'm only one reader--that story stayed with me. Something about the simplicity of the storyline and the vividness of Harry's confusion and the way you let certain ideas stay unresolved.
