By way of welcome - True Fanon Confessions

May 01, 2006 23:54

Hi, flist, and hello newcomers!

Nice to see so many new folks here! I'm delighted! Thought I'd post a little meme sort of thing to say hello, both to veteran friends who rarely hear from me, and to new friends as a sort of welcome wagon. I saw  this idea on an old thread at God Awful Fan Fiction, and it rather tickled my sense of whimsy.

So, most of us write fiction, I think? What fanon of your very own have YOU created? What details of appearance, backstory, idiosyncracies or quirks have you ascribed to your versions of canon characters? Does your Sirius like peanut butter sandwiches with the crusts cut off? Does your Remus have a low passion for Muggle soaps? Does your McGonagall have a secret collection of vintage Victorian smut? Is your Dumbledore left-handed?

I know many of us have added entire fully realized OC's and major plot lines to the canon saga, but here, I'm mostly asking about the little things, like Lupin's entirely fanon-generated chocoholism. Have you ever used details in your fic that you knew  were entirely fanon-generated, and yet were still too good to pass up? Have you taken tiny bits of canon and just run with them? Have you ever just made stuff up out of nowhere? And, incidentally,  when you've added little details, have you ever seen your fanon start to evolve and appear in other stories?

I'll fearlessly start, too, and will try not to blush too much. In my fic:

Sirius has a sable, key-shaped birthmark situated in a very private place.

Remus is always hungry, all the time, and can eat more than all of his friends put together .

Sirius and Remus sometimes spontaneously levitate when they are having sex.

James' mum grows medicinal herbs for potions in the flower beds around her house, including mugwort.

James snores something awful.

Regulus Black's childhood nurse was a house-elf called "Trilby"

Sirius is a late riser, and has no appetite for several hours after he first wakes up.

Remus has recurring dreams.

Sirius hates muffins, because he thinks they look like toadstools.

Remus has small hands and feet, and keeps his nails neatly clipped.

The Blacks still celebrate Samhain, and so do the Potters.

Walburga Black keeps a lace handkerchief tucked into her sleeve.

So, tell me truly - have you added to the great Myth Cycle of HP Fanon? They say confession is good for the soul, so post your coolest bits of fanon right here!
