Oh, Nyx -

I could not ask for a better birthday present! Thank you so much! I always think of reading new stories from you as sneaky little Christmas presents that I get before the rest of the world does. I could not ask for a more wonderful birthday present than this one.

It was, as always, my profound honor to beta for you; I love your writing, I love the atmospheres you evoke; and however often I read something I am always drawn into it anew.

What can I say that I haven't before? "The Effigy" is profoundly moving: it is cathartic for those of us who have lost, since it holds out the promise of something *more,* something *after.* And while it is wrenching, it is also sumblimely erotic.

I love what you did with the character of the effigy himself; while he was a copy of Sirius, he very much had his own sense of self-awareness, and was also *different* from Sirius. That alone sets the story (and the character) apart from other "threesome with clone/twin" fics; and I love that the encounter with the effigy (sexual and philosophical) deeply affected both Sirius and Remus - it made a deep and lasting impression on them both, and helped shape who they became.

So again, all of my greatest - and most grateful - thanks.

Many, many hugs,

Cricket

Oh, pssssh, Cricket, least I could do.

Sorry I had to be so sneaky about it being meant, ultimately, as a birthday gift to you, but you know you had fair warning. Remember when I told you I'd dreamed about a terrible storm coming when you had to evacuate Houston ahead of Rita?

Not sure if it's entirely appropriate to make the birthday-girl be the birthday-beta, but you know I can't post anything without your seal of approval.

And, yeah, the whole idea of loss and the stages of grief were more or less at the heart of this - not the immediate, almost paralyzing stage, but that stage when you begin to feel like maybe you're going to be all right after all. I know you know what I'm talking about. Thanks again for all your input and help with this odd little fic, and thank you for your lovely comments. I'm so glad you liked it!

...and, once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
