// Epilogue //
Donghae panted as he rushed out onto the parking lot. Despite his tired legs and caution, he somehow managed to still outrun his assistant who'd always tried to catch up.
He needed a break, he continued reminding the hysterical assistant who chased him yet again, exclaiming he had run out of excuses. Leeteuk on the other hand, distracted his assistant long enough for him to make his escape. Such trips were becoming almost routine.
He drove about until he reached the nearby park, strolling through the busy walkways he checked his vibrating cell, but an unsubtle look of disappointment reached his face.
"It's nice to know how excited you are to see me."
A strain of sarcasm, just not the same sort Donghae thinks. He looked back at Hankyung who tsked. "I feel close, I do."
Donghae gave an apologetic smile, walking beside the older man as they spoke. Hankyung arched an eyebrow at the worn out phone. "You look distracted."
"A little." Donghae admitted, patting his pocket every so often to make sure his cell was safely with him.
Hankyung's eyes shift to the gesture, one so common over the years they've remained friends. "He's hardly the ideal person," he expresses without animosity, merely stating fact. Donghae playfully shrugged, Hankyung sighed exaggeratedly, "I'm afraid of your type."
"Your partner isn't any better." Donghae recalls, laughing inwardly as he remembered the intimidating man he came across at one point. He even remembers feeling the hint of jealously, wishing he could do the same and spend all his free time together as he observed the two do, as freely as they pleased.
Still, it was difficult, but he wasn't done trying. "He's mine," Donghae declared with a reassuring smile, his hands in his pockets. "That's good enough for me."
Donghae briefly wondered who was more possessive than of the two. He heard his former classmate's sigh and raised his eyebrows in silent question. Hankyung remarked lightly, "It's nice to see a real smile from you."
Donghae feigned a stoic expression instantly, ruined when Hankyung came by and ruffled his hair, a gesture he still did often. They parted ways soon afterward as his former classmate returned to work. Donghae remained by, looking up at the summer sun who hid behind the cloudy sky, with the air refreshingly cool for the day, he felt rather relaxed.
Now he was able to escape to such freedom more frequently, the chains of the company keeping their hold but he was manipulating such ties everyday.
It wasn't the only chains that held him however, he found that he missed the person that reigned them.
His phone vibrated and he reached for it. It was an unrecognizable number that never appeared on his screen, most would find it odd how the CEO hurriedly answered it. "E-"
"Took you long enough."
"It was only a few seconds." Donghae replied, his hand reaching for his keys. "A person can't do anything in that short of time."
"I don't like those odds."
Donghae chuckled lightly, raising his keys when he stopped, staring at the intruder who dared to sit on the front hood of his expensive vehicle. He walked closer as the other jumped off the hood. Before he could utter a word, Eunhyuk reached out and roughly ruffled his hair, leaving it in a worse state than it already was.
"I still don't get why you do that." Donghae replied hotly, Eunhyuk smirked as the younger man opened the driver's door. "Some warning would be nice." He added.
Eunhyuk then lost his smile, and when the business man tries to enter, the older man's arm bars him from entering.
"Why? Afraid I'll catch you in the act?"
Donghae raised an eyebrow at his statement. "What act?"
Eunhyuk didn't reply, pausing for a moment before withdrawing his arm. He strolled to the other side of the car, entering through the passenger side leaving him without an answer. Baffled, Donghae decided not to pursue the question yet during the drive home.
Donghae's cellphone rang and he reached for it when Eunhyuk grabbed it instead.
"You don't have a life, do you?" Donghae looked from the corner of his eye as Eunhyuk spoke to whomever was the other end. "You know who this is? Such skills, I see a bright future for someone like that. Let me applaud you." He snapped the phone shut, "If that's the result of a university education, then I fear for this country."
"Who was that?" Donghae asked.
"Your intern-"
"Assistant." Donghae corrects. "And you know Yesung's name by now," he lightly scolds. Eunhyuk waved away at the unimportant information.
"You clearly don't assign him enough work, looks like he doesn't have anything better to do than call you. Surely he knows calling is a distraction on the road, looks like he's after your title."
"I'm sure." Donghae said with mild disbelief, knowing his true motives. "That's his job."
Eunhyuk lowered his eyes, "he's almost as annoying as that old friend of yours."
"You mean Hankyung?"
"Like I remember his name."
Donghae smiled. "He transferred to a company in this city actually, I meet with him often." He added offhandedly as he pulled over to the curb as he parked by his home, getting out of the car as he ignored his passenger's shifting glare.
Donghae mildly shivered as he adjusted to the lowered temperatures of his apartment. "Do you want coffee?" He asked out of courtesy, knowing the other would still refuse it. He made enough for only himself, meanwhile eying Eunhyuk's crossed arms during the process.
"I'd prefer a cigarette." Eunhyuk muttered under his breath, moving his hair from his eyes.
Donghae prepared his drink as Eunhyuk settled into the couch. The cellphone rang once more, the object still in Eunhyuk's hand, and the intensity in that glare made Donghae turn his back briefly. He hid his knowing smile as he drank his black coffee, allowing his lungs to expand as he breathed in more clearly.
He took the cup with him as he walked towards the large glass windows of their apartment. Drinking more of the coffee as he leaned against the windows, clearing his throat.
"The company is sending me abroad."
"I heard." Eunhyuk replied. "The television likes to notify the world on every move you make." Donghae turned his head and looked in his direction. "I guess I won't come back for a while."
Donghae kicked the ground; placing the cup on the cabinet as he stepped towards him. His partner all the while eying his movements. Donghae sat beside him, "This trip won't have to be all about business."
Eunhyuk arched an eyebrow and lightly scoffed. He leaned in and forced Donghae to back up against the leather couch, entrapping him in his arms. "You're pursuing pleasure before business? That goes against your boy scout code."
"It's a full year surrounded by people like my father, anyone would be rebellious." Donghae reasoned, he tried to act careless, as if the answer meant nothing. But his fingers betrayed his appearance as they fidgeted on the shirt. "Do you think they'll let you come?"
He studied his expression, remaining stoic, just as quiet. He refused to let that be an answer.
"The risk is low." Donghae insisted. "Nothing will happen, I mean..." He trailed off, knowing in the end that no amount of assurance would be convincing. The silent answer disappointing him as he leaned back against the couch. All the while loathing that his high level career gave him a high-risk profile, if he wasn't so exposed to the media, then just maybe...
"I've missed you." Donghae admitted dejectedly.
He sees a hint of his words reaching him, but another thought must have reached him first. "I'm sure you have." Eunhyuk said, glancing down at the cell.
Rather than be put off, Donghae couldn't help but smile at that. Eunhyuk sees that glint in the other's eyes and tries to ignore it, knowing when Donghae sought his attention. The business man still manages to lean in without hesitation and kiss him softly on the lips. Any bout of jealously evaded Eunhyuk as the warm kiss continued.
He nearly gave in when Donghae prematurely ended the kiss, his hands tugging on Eunhyuk's shirt before withdrawing them. He began to pull away and excused himself, "I have work tomorrow."
He felt Eunhyuk's lips against his once again, enjoying every bit of it as Eunhyuk gradually used his strength, unable to truly stay gentle with him. Rather than an excuse, his words may have come off as a challenge. The impatient was already doing away with his clothes and Donghae stared back at the bedroom.
"The room is just over there." Donghae tried to suggest lightly.
"We'll get there later on." Eunhyuk declared, "We'll have plenty of time for that."
Donghae tried to argue against that but his familiar smile signaled that they weren't moving anywhere, the other still too impatient.
"Unless you pass out again." Eunhyuk reasoned under his breath, Donghae gaped but was silenced just the same. He doubted that he could function normally at work with bruises on his body, though he always managed.
Soon after, Donghae didn't bother to change locations, or argue against anything else for that matter. He lets himself be pulled into the heated kiss, he understands Eunhyuk a bit more each visit and knows there's more than just this physical exchange.
He knows from Eunhyuk's tight grip that the latter missed him too.

Dana slammed her hand on the edge of the desk.
"If you continue this, we'll charge you with witness tampering." She warned, Kangin stood in the corner, keeping watch of the door.
"It's not so much witness tampering as it is witness fu-" She covered Eunhyuk's mouth.
Donghae, still in his expensive tailored suit, sat in the cheap red couch of the hotel room. For the first time since in his silence, he replied coolly,
"Fine, I won't."
The pair seemed surprised at his quick yet firm answer, leaving little room for doubt. Donghae walked out of the room as a pair of narrowed eyes followed him.
Donghae was turned around, cornered by Eunhyuk who bolted out of the room to that empty hallway. "What did you mean you won't-"
"Next week?" Donghae asked quietly so only the other could hear. Eunhyuk stayed silent when footsteps were heard, coming towards their direction as the pair found them. She pulled Eunhyuk’s arm, forcing him away as Donghae stayed rooted to his spot and acts composed to their eyes, having mastered the art, the business man fools them with ease.
He didn't receive an audible answer at the time, but Eunhyuk's dark smile had said enough.
It had been years since that exchange since Donghae was warned to step aside, but the meetings didn't stop. He was offered dated visits and supervised times, so rare that it wasn’t enough for the two. Donghae was thankful of the protective pair for doing what they could and respect them for it, he may have looked unreasonable, but that sort of thought didn't bother him too often.
Donghae couldn't let go of Eunhyuk then, and decided he would never.
Donghae collapsed against Eunhyuk's chest as he took in harsh, labored breaths. His eyes stayed closed as the mask was placed over his mouth, gradually breathing in the medicine.
He had remembered how embarrassed he was the first time this happened, such attacks were somewhat common after rigorous activity. Fortunately Eunhyuk didn't care, and his embarrassment soon subsided.
His throat expanded slowly as his chest slowly decompressed, he felt a cold air rush over his skin. He pushed away the mask as he reached over to close the windows.
Eunhyuk's arms restrained him back, returning the mask over his mouth.
"I'm cold." Donghae murmured as he pushed away the mask, signaling he was better now.
"Should I warm you up again?"
He narrowed his eyes as Eunhyuk simply smirked. "You do this to torture me."
Eunhyuk returned the mask to the machine by the bed, closing his eyes as he leaned his head back against the headboard. Donghae trembled slightly, waiting patiently for the side effects to pass as his asthma gradually calmed. Just as they're beginning to subside, the sound of his ringing phone blared annoyingly loud, ruining their comfortable silence.
Donghae shifted around, his shaking hands reaching for it when Eunhyuk abruptly grabbed it, snapped it in half and threw the pieces harshly to the other side of the room.
"They're not going to believe I ran over my phone a tenth time." Donghae murmured, smiling gratefully nonetheless. Not wanting anyone to ruin this cherished evening.
Only the cold air continued to crept in to ruin it, he shivered and tried to sneak over quietly, but Eunhyuk abruptly pulled him back. Donghae had no other choice but to pull the thick covers over him, moving as he laid against Eunhyuk's chest in a desperate attempt to stay warm.
"You wouldn't get any work done." He suddenly hears Eunhyuk say, and it takes a bit for Donghae to realize what he was referring to his earlier offer.
"If you think I'm going to regret it, I won't." He reached for his hand. "I don't regret anything."
Donghae intertwined his fingers with his own. Holding it comfortably in his hand as he shifted against his chest, relaxing gradually into sleep.
"I'm leaving the program."
Donghae opened his eyes. He blinked repeatedly as he processed his bold statement and sat up. He looked back at Eyunhyuk who slowly opened his eyes.
"I thought it wasn't an option," Donghae recalled.
"Laws have changed since then, in a few months it'll be option to stay." Eunhyuk says quietly as if the walls could eavesdrop.
"Don't expect me stay around all the time." Eunhyuk warns. "If there's a risk, I'll sometimes have to leave... but at least this time you'll know where. It’s better if I do nonetheless to throw them off, I don’t want my parents to think they can use you through me."
Eunhyuk's eyes remain firm with the other's, he arches an eyebrow at the familiar look on Donghae's face, one that studies him with such intent. When it changes, a wide, childish smile forms on his lips, an odd combination of relief and hope filling his rounded eyes. Eunhyuk calmly closes his eyes as he feels those pair of lips brushing against his cheek.
"Don't act cute with me."
Donghae bit back a smile as he kissed him a few more times alongside his neck until finally kissing him fully on the lips. Before Eunhyuk had any ideas, he pulled away and averts from the other's scowl.
Eunhyuk finally rests, shoulders at ease paired with a tranquil expression, nothing about him intimidates Donghae, he steals a second glance before Eunhyuk covers his eyes, "Sleep." He orders, Donghae moves his hand.
He moved Eunhyuk's arms until they were around him, the younger man loosely embraced his torso, resting blissfully with his cheek pressed against his chest, right by Eunhyuk's heart.
-
There's never a 'until we meet again' although they do. Or a 'next time' when there always is, it's odd for Donghae to get used to, but eventually he does.
He walked about his now empty home.
He opened his liquor cabinet and poured himself a drink, glancing at the various furniture in the apartment, all of them he owned himself.
He smiled at the thought that the only thing Eunhyuk truly owned in the apartment was the bed. Although he also palmed his forehead at the memory, remembering the flick against his forehead when Donghae had offered to purchase it without Eunhyuk having to spend a dime. The insulted man scolded him for even suggesting the idea, going as far as paying parts of the rent. Donghae was reluctantly forced to accept the random checks that came to his mail from various streets and names.
His eyes returned to the cabinet, he opened it slowly as he hesitantly reached behind the bottles when he pulled out a old, abused wallet. He opened it and took out a wrinkled, folded piece of paper. In his handwriting it read-
'I'll always come back.'
Donghae looked at his scribbled signature beside it and his own handwriting beneath the promise that read to quit smoking. It was proving quite difficult for Eunhyuk, but he wouldn't budge on it. He finally had him, and he selfishly wanted him around for as long as possible.
He was glad that Eunhyuk's refusal to change had been both a curse and a relief. The moment Eunhyuk had set his mind and eyes on something, he didn't bother with other options. This included his feelings and the person he targeted them towards.
He was still working out whether that was a good thing. Donghae was stubbornly the same way.
His boyfriend stubbornly kept him in line, intruded on his meetings with friends and co-workers, making sure Donghae always had his eyes for him. Always returning at the spur of the moment because he simply couldn't leave him permanently, even if he had gotten into trouble often with his assigned agents.
All in all, he was an attention seeker whose only sought Donghae's and no one else's.
He admitted he wasn't completely confident in his decision that day by the pier, but his fears gradually subsided and he anticipated every visit that never fazed through the years. The truth of Eunhyuk’s circumstances didn’t make the long waits any less difficult, but easier to accept.
And soon, he won't have to. At the thought, he's almost bursting in glee.
He winced at the sound of his new cell phone ringing. He thought of simply not answering but decided for once not to give his assistant a heart attack, mentally scolding himself for getting it replaced so quickly.
Donghae tilted back his glasses, speaking over the phone with his client when the door opened. Everyone knew better than to interrupt him during these calls, but Eunhyuk made himself the exception. Every time Donghae tried otherwise to tell him, he found himself not completing any work at all.
The jacket was thrown carelessly over the couch. "You put too much time and energy into this place." Eunhyuk remarked.
Donghae finished the last of his call as he placed the phone back on its receiver. "This is where its best spent." He reasoned, quietly but pleasantly surprised that Eunhyuk hadn't left just yet, knowing it'd be a process.
"I can already disprove that, but I'd rather show it you." Donghae tried his best to feign annoyance as Eunhyuk stepped towards him.
Donghae stood up from the chair. "I have work to do."
"You really are a horrible liar, even with so much practice over the years." Donghae stepped back, trying to use the chair as a barrier between them.
"Don't you dare. Last night you already-"
"One night is hardly enough, and as I recall, I wasn't one that kept demanding." He said knowingly, Donghae's cheeks flushed, his attempt at controlling the other defeated easily. "I thought you business men love overfilling your quotas."
Eunhyuk easily shoved the chair away.
"We also love contracts that both parties fulfill their parts of the deal," Donghae found himself leaning back over the desk, Eunhyuk had effectively cornered him. "You've hardly quit smoking."
Eunhyuk shrugged as he leaned in, furthering pushing him onto as he laid flat. "It's been a while since I've been here, I'm surprised this table is still standing."
"You're disrupting my work."
Eunhyuk smiled devilishly. "You want me to leave?"
Donghae shifted his eyes, his pursuit to argue any further leaving him. He murmured truthfully a quiet "No."
In some ways he felt like the same teenager, as naive and lost the day he first met him. As intent on his crush, his cheeks still heated and his chest pounding loudly. And while he had to grow up in this business and lifestyle, he was able to act more himself around Eunhyuk, the other intentionally pulling this side of him.
His pulse quickened as Eunhyuk trapped him, his lips barely touching his. Despite how many times they were in such a position, his heart still couldn't remain calm.
Eunhyuk utterly silenced him with a kiss, Donghae didn't bother to fight back, his wrists already restrained. He easily knew where it could have continued.
Only it was interrupted when the door opened once again, panting as he looked up at Eunhyuk's stolid expression that failed to mask his anger. He tilted his head back slightly and noted his furiously blushing assistant who stood in the doorway.
"I-I'm sorry sir! I didn't mean to-I was-"
"It's fine." Donghae replied as he forced Eunhyuk off him. Yesung difficult to continue what he saying as he was about to face Eunhyuk's wrath once again. He wished he could say it was Yesung's first time doing so, but because of his tendency to disturb them in the most intimate of moments, Eunhyuk had labeled him an enemy. He wondered briefly if offering the former intern the job was a good thing, considering the stress he put him through.
With daggers sent his way, Yesung quickly handed him his documents and scurried towards the door. "I'm sorry again." He bowed.
Donghae tried to reassure him, knowing if he didn't send him out soon, the fuming Eunhyuk behind him would do worse. Although his assistant continued to apologize repeatedly without getting the hint.
"He won't be able to walk straight if I castrate him." Eunhyuk thought out loud.
Donghae chuckled quietly when the assistant hurriedly closed the door and Eunhyuk leaned his head against the wall. Grumbling under his breath as Donghae eyed him.
He stepped over, hoping to distract his mind as his hands gripped his shirt, kissing alongside his collarbone. He continued his way up as Eunhyuk cursed his assistant out loud, vaguely conscious of his actions. "That idiot never gets it."
Donghae sighed, giving up partially seeing as how the assistant had destroyed the mood completely. He turned away and glanced at his work, reluctant to return to it and instead looked at the door. He headed towards it when he was pulled back and thrown on the leather couch of his office.
"Who gave you permission to leave?" Eunhyuk asked, his eyes darkening, overcoming him.
"I wasn't going to leave." Donghae assured when Eunhyuk gave a disbelieving look. "I don't need that coming from you of all people."
"Then don't make me say it." Eunhyuk replied as he leaned in, Donghae turned away however and looked helplessly at the door. "Don't even dare plan your escape."
Donghae felt his hands tugging at the buttons of his shirt. "Wait, I just need to lock the door-"
"No, you don't."
"If I don't, someone else will walk in, again. Leeteuk or maybe my assistant again-"
"Good, maybe he'll learn something and finally become a man." Donghae lowered his eyes at his smirk.
Unable to retort as Eunhyuk crashed his lips against his harshly, hardly giving him a chance to breathe. This time he gave in willingly, enjoying every bit of his brutal touch, able to finally keep him in his hands for the time being.
Listening to Eunhyuk's former advice, untying its complicated ties and enjoying the simplicity of their relationship. The stoic facade he wore was suffocating and he found he was able to breathe easier once he broke through it. His affection for the man increased without boundaries, proving himself to be less of an illusion with every heated touch.
He smiled into the kiss as he pulled him closer, loving the results of his actions and what he had finally attained.
Unfortunately he was right in another aspect as well, that day his assistant incidentally walked into the room once again and in Eunhyuk's own words, learned to become a man.
And in Donghae's own words, learned what became of a man whose honest smile belonged to none other than the owner of those dark and menacing eyes.
