Genre: AU!Romance
Summary: There's a few risks that come with this sort of relationship.

-

Junsu isn’t sure what to do with him.

He could plant kisses, tug his hand, hold him even, but any of those actions would cause him to turn the deepest shade red. Public displays of affection? Not in their book.

Junsu sighs for the umpteenth time that day and notices Eunhyuk turning around as they sat on the bus.

“Something wrong?”

Yes. “No.” Junsu assures, Eunhyuk doesn’t quite believe him. But if he had say yes, the other would misunderstand and think it was his fault. Well, it sort of was...

Junsu sits back, pensive as he observes his boyfriend’s timid eyes looking out the window, distracted by the passing scenery.

He could kiss him now without the other noticing, but stops himself. Thinking back to the last time he tried, the other nearly jumped out of his seat and panicked in the worst way possible. Everyone had eyed him like he was some pervert and that left Junsu sinking in further in his seat from the memory.

It was difficult being in love with such a guy.

-

Junsu was the type that if he ever dated, he wanted to bring his boyfriend around to almost everywhere to meet his friends, bragging about the one in his life.

Instead, on that glorious Friday night, Junsu was left visibly alone as his friends were all paired up around him. Dating was supposed to cure the awkward third wheel.

“I can’t believe this is still happening to me.” Junsu says out loud.

“How so?” One of his friends asks. “Weren’t you bringing your boyfriend with you?”

“You’re dating?” Another friend asks in surprise. Junsu doesn’t quite like his tone.

“I am, is that shocking to you?” He snaps, but his friends only laugh.

He walks home afterward, frustrated as he mutters repeatedly some insane ideas here and there. He stops and sees Eunhyuk sitting on a bench across the street, waving shyly in his direction.

“Were you waiting here for me all this time?” Junsu asks once he crosses. Eunhyuk shakes his head but Junsu knows he’s lying.

“How was it?” Eunhyuk begins.

“Interesting, full of people, rowdy, horrendous music blasting till your ears pop, your worst nightmare really.”

Eunhyuk knows the other is teasing him and does his best to remain stoic. His boyfriend wasn’t cold, mean or callous, but simply quiet. “It would have been better if you were there.” Junsu states firmly.

Eunhyuk chuckles uneasily, “I wouldn’t have fitted in.”

“And?”

That wasn’t an answer. Eunhyuk’s struggles to give him a satisfactory reply, “And...well.. You wouldn’t have had enjoye-...” He stops himself, seeing Junsu worsening his glare.

Was he that type of person? No. But the little voices in that boyfriend’s head were telling him otherwise.

Still, the flustered look on his face is too cute to resist and Junsu steals a kiss on the cheek.

Eunhyuk jumps away, straining his neck downward as he paces himself quicker. Junsu lowers his eyes, annoyed by this common reaction.

“I’m trying to make this work.” Junsu utters.

Why bother? Most asked him.

He wishes he can agree, aggravated as he left a decent amount of space between them. This relationship was probably the most frustrating he’s ever been in, but he still finds himself following along.

-

Contrary to his friends’ belief, it was Junsu who fell first.

The first to confess, the first to nervously (without showing it) wait for a response, and to excitedly attack Eunhyuk when the latter finally accepted. To his relief, Eunhyuk had felt the same, only he never had the courage to say it.

There are times he sees Eunhyuk side-eying him when Junsu wasn’t paying particular attention. When he does, the other turns away.

“Don’t doubt me.”

Eunhyuk looks up and shifts his gaze to Junsu’s smile that fights to hide itself. “When I confessed, I meant every word. Don’t ever doubt me.”

“...I wasn’t.” Eunhyuk lies quietly, Junsu shakes his head and pretends to believe him.

Eunhyuk had to be the insecure of the two, that’s always what everyone presumed. Junsu doesn’t correct them. There are times he isn’t convinced Eunhyuk feels as strongly as he does, and the usually confident man needs to be assured every while or so.

“Are you alright?” Eunhyuk asks, concerned when Junsu coughed just once as winter comes down on the city.

“It’s nothing to worry about.”

Junsu should have known better, and jinxes himself into bed rest the following morning. Alone and laying on the couch, he texts him absentmindedly, ”Make me feel better.”

An hour later he hears the door open and sees Eunhyuk welcome himself into the apartment and brings a bag as he sits on the floor besides Junsu.

“What are you doing here?”

Eunhyuk says straightforwardly, “You said to make you feel better.” He then gestures to a container of soup and movies he brought. “I wasn’t sure which you wanted, so I brought them all-”

Junsu clasps his arms around Eunhyuk’s shoulders, the startled man freezes.

“If only I could kiss you,” Junsu sighs, that only encourages the tension.

Eunhyuk is soon let go and puts the movies in, the other begins to watch when he feels an abrupt soft pressure on his forehead.

Eunhyuk quickly returns to the floor as if nothing had happened. Junsu grins and tugs the reddened strands of his boyfriend’s hair.

“I knew you liked me.” He murmurs.

The other could only bury his face into his knees at the sounded revelation.

-

His friends exchanged some glances between themselves. Junsu bites his cheek, recognizing the look. He tells Eunhyuk to wait for him in the outside porch and the latter listens.

“He’s not mean,” Junsu clarifies when he faces his friends.

“I don’t think he likes any of us.”

Junsu still continues to explain in Eunhyuk’s case, it’s such a common habit for him to do that he’s sure he’s memorized the wording by now.

They were having a gathering and Junsu managed to coerce Eunhyuk into going. Guilted him really, but desperate times called for underhanded measures.

Eunhyuk looks down as he stands by the walkway, politely declining every offer to go back inside. “They think I hate them, don’t they?”

“They’re nice people, mostly...”

Eunhyuk nods. Nice people seemed to bother him even more, mainly because he regretted coming off as rude. “I’m sorry,” he mumbles.

Junsu smiles, observing the cold look on his boyfriend’s face, one that caused one too many misunderstandings. His eyes blank, difficult for just anyone to understand.

It’s the subtle movements of his hands, his bitten lips that gives him away. There are many outgoing ones who attach themselves to Eunhyuk because they weren’t the only ones afraid. Yet, Junsu is probably the few ones who bothers to understand his mindset.

“If you’re sorry, you should come in with me and attempt a conversation or two.”

He reaches for Eunhyuk’s hand again, but the man is surprisingly strong and doesn’t move from the spot. Junsu loudly sighs, “I won’t force you.”

Eunhyuk’s fingers curl just around his cuff, an apologetic gesture. Junsu sees his friend wave him over from the inside and steps forward when he sees Eunhyuk eying him.

“I won’t be long.”

Eunhyuk nods, his eyes are begging him to stay, but he says nothing of the sort. He remains still for however long it had been, staring at the streets when he feels two arms wrap around from behind him. Eunhyuk lowers his head, “Your friends can see us.”

“And? I’m proving to them you’re mine, and that I’m yours.”

From his hug, he can feel the heat rising to Eunhyuk’s neck, and Junsu decides to be kind for a moment. He lets go and gestures that they’re leaving.

Junsu kicks the ground every so often and can see every sound makes Eunhyuk nervous. He isn’t angry for having to leave early, but Eunhyuk thinks he is. Junsu eyes at Eunhyuk’s free hand that presses the crosswalk button as they wait for the light.

Just before he can tuck it back in his pocket, Junsu reaches for Eunhyuk’s hand, prying his clasped fingers open and stubbornly intertwines them together.

“I like them this way.” He says to Eunhyuk’s embarrassment. They stay this way as they cross when he vaguely hears,

“...do too.”

He decides not tease him to say it again, just as he did every time and a trick Eunhyuk always fell for, but is visibly uplifted by those quiet words. It only took a few to make or break his day. With Eunhyuk, it was always the case.

-

“Junsu...”

“Mm?” Junsu is standing just outside Eunhyuk’s apartment, planning on surprising the other, when he received the phone call.

“Can you...”

“Can I?”

There’s a long silence, and Junsu can see Eunhyuk pacing in circles. “Could you come by?” He finally musters to say.

“For?” Junsu smiles as he approaches his door, and can see Eunhyuk lower the cell and increase his pacing.

Eunhyuk takes a deep breath and admits quietly, “I just... I just want to... see you.”

Junsu rings the doorbell and can see the shock on the other’s face when their eyes meet.

He hands him a lunch box he got from work as they sat across from one another in his living room. The corners of Eunhyuk’s lips twitched upward at the gesture, and Junsu feels his own heart skip a slight beat.

“Why do I have to be like this?” Junsu groans and slumps on the table to Eunhyuk’s confusion and worry.

Why bother? Too many have asked him.

Simple; because Junsu was such a lost cause in the first place whenever Eunhyuk was involved.

“It’s tiresome caring about you.” He murmurs, he hears nothing but silence and peers out of one eye to see their reflection. Eunhyuk was notably hurt.

“Does... this mean you’re ending it with me?

“Nope.”

Eunhyuk shifts uncomfortably, hands fidgeting beneath the table. “Then why is it tiring?”

“Love isn’t always meant to be exciting, uplifting. It is often tiring,” Junsu says quite simply, rationalizing it to himself. Each word pierced deeper into the other’s chest.

Junsu shifts his gaze to the now quiet figure who couldn’t touch another bite of his meal now.

“But it’s worth it.” Junsu finishes. "You're the only person I'd make this much effort for."

He’s not sure whether Eunhyuk had heard him, but he waits until the man slowly thinks over his words and realizes what he meant. Still, his pain isn’t whisked away as instantly, he probably didn't believe take his last words to heart.

Junsu picks up the chopsticks and lifts a piece of the meal and gestures it to Eunhyuk. “Eat. You’ll be hurting my feelings if you don’t.”

Eunhyuk is visibly torn and takes the bite. Once he tries to swallow, Junsu reaches over the table and kisses him.

Eunhyuk nearly chokes on his food and hurriedly takes a drink as Junsu laughs. The reddening figure buries his face into his hands as Junsu walks around and sits beside him, holding the tense man in his arms.

This only increases his heartbeat, but Junsu doesn’t stop. Even as Eunhyuk struggles to escape his stubborn grasp, Junsu makes it impossible. He made Junsu fall for him, this was his own fault. Why he bothers shouldn’t be a question asked.

These may have been the consequences, but he lived with them. If it meant them being together-

"Then it's always worth it," he declares, followed by a more willing, second kiss.
