Summary: Stringing a line of men he knew were wrong for him, he wondered just how much longer it'd take for Donghae to realize they weren't worth it.

-

He sat in the seat within the airport gate, able to see the planes outside. He sighed and felt around for his cell, a few times he snuck away to slyly check, he was left with disappointment.

"Anticipating a call from the boyfriend?" Kyuhyun asked idly, sitting beside him, flipping through the pages of the magazine.

Donghae feigned indifference, failing miserably. "Can't a guy check his email?"

"Yes, but considering you're checking every five minutes or so. One might considered that compulsive behavior." He placed it on Donghae's lap. "You should be studying the competition rather than that guy. We need to learn how to increase sales."

"We're the best seller in that market, I don't see how we should improve it." Kyuhyun glowered.

"It's that type of thinking that sunk TimeAgain!"

"Who?"

"Exactly." Kyuhyun stated. Donghae pursed his lips and reluctantly began going through the pages as Kyuhyun studied the other ones. He had a business trip to focus on, and that was where his mind was to be set in, but he couldn't stay focus. A fact Kyuhyun ridiculed him often for.

He felt something smack his head and looked at Kyuhyun beside him. "I asked for your opinion on where this should go." He pointed to the giant ornament within the photo-shoot.

"What choices do I have?"

"Up, down, left, right, your choices are endless really." Kyuhyun uttered as Donghae pursed his lips, the cell then swiped from his hands. He shushed Donghae before he could speak. "First this, then I'll think about returning your phone to you."

Donghae sighed, his business partner was truly a workaholic. He decided to go about the work, shoving the call to the back of his mind as he'd help to rearrange the stuff until it was set for the backdrop. He handled a the decorations, when he accidentally cut his hand and winced, it wasn't too deep.

"Done?" Kyuhyun called out, Donghae lowered his hand and nodded as he walked towards him. Donghae reached out a hand when instead of the cell, Kyuhyun grabbed his hand and glanced at the cut. "Do you enjoy hurting yourself?"

"My-"

Kyuhyun whipped out a band-aid from his pocket and placed it over Donghae's palm. Donghae arched an eyebrow when Kyuhyun explained, "You hurt yourself so much, I decided it'd be easier just to carry the stuff with me for now on. Now go sit and don't touch anything."

"But-"

Kyuhyun huffed and roughly placed the phone in his hand. Before Donghae could check. "He didn't call." Kyuhyun said quietly. "Don't bother checking." He then walked off to the set to speak to the photographer.

The man glanced back to see Donghae still in place, crestfallen, his eyes downhearted. Kyuhyun forced himself to focus on the set.

-

The clinking of glasses were heard as the staff enjoyed themselves to a congratulatory dinner, smiling and reaching for the food in the stove-tops. Kyuhyun looked amongst the smoke across as Donghae who remained the sole person who didn't enjoy the party.

Donghae looked up as Kyuhyun reached to put some food on his place. "Eat." Kyuhyun ordered. "I won't have you starving because of some guy." Donghae thinned his lips and reluctantly ate a few pieces. Kyuhyun drank his beer and leaned back, his eyes still intent on the one across.

-

Kyuhyun walked through the hotel room, stretching his arms over his shoulders. Donghae walked to sit on the chair, his cell immediately put on charge.

"It's not broken."

"Maybe it is." Donghae countered, restarting his phone.

Kyuhyun narrowed his eyes and grabbed his own cell, calling the number and Donghae's phone rang. Donghae visibly cleared his throat. He then placed it back on the table. Kyuhyun stood before him, ending the call and the ringing left the room in tense silence.

"Do you like suffering? Doing this to yourself?" Kyuhyun asked, Donghae looked up. "Every time I have see those guys around you, and they're never any better. This one is probably the worst of them all."

Donghae shifted as Kyuhyun sat beside him, peering up at him. "Do they just have to kiss you and you fall into their arms?"

Kyuhyun pushed Donghae onto his back on the couch, hovering above him with his hands on either side, barring him from leaving. Donghae held his hands out, pushing him upward. "I have a boyfriend."

Kyuhyun sneered. "Right, one who doesn't call you, reads your messages and forgets your name sometimes."

"That-"

"After it happens three times, it's no longer forgetting." Kyuhyun uttered coldly. "I know more about you, your birthday, you likes and dislikes and I'm not even dating you. What does that say for a person who's meant to care about you?"

Donghae lowered his eyes, unsure of what to say.

"And even though I'm not meant to care, I somehow do." Kyuhyun realized.

Donghae looked up the moment Kyuhyun turned away. "Never-mind me." He murmured, getting off him and going about his way to take a shower. Donghae felt his lungs working again once the door closed, clutching his hand as he struggled to understand what had just happened.

-

They looked out at the lit up boats, standing behind the rails in the hotel. Donghae couldn't look at Kyuhyun in the eye most of the day, and the few times they were side by side, they were mostly silent.

It reached 11:36, the last night of their abroad trip. Kyuhyun placed his chin on his palm and gave an ultimatum.

"If he doesn't call before midnight, I get to kiss you." Donghae parted his lips, but simply fell silent as the minutes roamed by.

At 11:54, his cell rang. They both looked at the phone that continued until Donghae opened it. Kyuhyun lowered his eyes and walked away from the rail to the other side of the view, he didn't need to hear it. Not that he wanted to. He felt a gentle tap to his shoulder and looked to see Donghae resume his spot beside him.

"I broke up with him." Donghae said softly with a strained smile. "What's worst is that he didn't bother to argue against that, and I'm almost sure he dialed the wrong number meaning I wasn't even a priority."

"I swear if you cry, I'll throw your cell into the ocean." Kyuhyun warned lowly, Donghae maintained his wistful smile and appreciated the view around him.

The lights danced alongside the calm sea water, and it distracted Donghae for the night. It moved until he felt his vision blurred.

He may not have had the ideal relationship, the best boyfriend, but that wasn't the issue. The fact that the man didn't bother to care for him was probably the most troubling fact.

He closed his eyes, refusing to be weak. And Kyuhyun's hand that remained on his back comforted him, and in his own way, calmed the other.

He was proud to say he didn't shed a single tear.

-

Kyuhyun walked into the office to see Donghae asleep on the floor, plenty of sheets and stuck on ideas plastered about.

"You really can't handle this on your own." He reprimanded.

The moment Donghae woke up the next morning, he noticed the blanket covering his bottom half.

He checked his watch and scravenged what he could and nearly bolted from the office. It was there by the door he realized he must have grabbed the wrong assignment.

The door opened and revealed Kyuhyun standing there. "Sleeping on the job are we?"

Donghae bowed his head to apologize.

A folder of papers smacked lightly on his chest, left in his hands as Kyuhyun said. "They approved of your work, it's going in the next issue."

Donghae looked up but Kyuhyun had already left. He looked through his file to see his files organized and the written notes of what the table thought. His gaze trailed after Kyuhyun who continued on without sparing a glance his way.

He expected as such, but smiled gratefully nonetheless.

-

A year since and Kyuhyun almost gripped his seat, looking at every person who accompanied Donghae to see if they were his potential. He hated himself for wishing nothing to happen, but couldn't back the sigh of relief when he realized nothing did.

He was truly a horrible person, someone he reasoned his partner didn't deserve.

-

"We need an inside scoop." Kibum ensured. Kyuhyun dressed into the ridiculous costume, cringing at his own appearance. "Park characters are fun once you get into the character."

"You're lucky I'm not the one with the sword, or I'd have sliced your neck with it." The co-worker cringed, stepping away from the venomous sounding yet cuddly looking bear. "If I found out that Ryeowook really did just skip work, he's-"

"Get out there, and you're lucky, this bear doesn't talk." Kibum quickly rushed him out to the large park.

Kyuhyun glared at the world, and was lucky that the world couldn't see him do it.

"Ryeowook." Donghae called, smiling. "I didn't think you'd fit into it, and you're right, it is cute."

Kyuhyun parted his lips, but then Donghae leaned in and said with a thoughtful expression. "I'll admit it, I do like him." Donghae admitted to the man inside the suit. "But I think he hates me now." He chuckled, stretching his arms before him.

Kyuhyun stayed silent as Donghae wished him luck and left him on the spot.

"Did you discover anything?" Kibum asked, pulling apart the costume. Kyuhyun remained quiet, giving no snide comment, which admittedly, was a first.

Kyuhyun finished his report on his laptop, closing it as he put it away in his bag. He looked out at the man-made lake within the park from the restaurant, he flinched at the feel of the frigid water bottle against his skin. He glared but then lessened as Donghae smiled.

"You're in a bad mood." Donghae noted, Kyuhyun grabbed the bottle from his hand. "Done with your work for the day."

"I guess." Kyuhyun murmured.

Donghae then pulled his wrist. "Let's enjoy the show then, shall we? We can't come to a park like this and only just work."

Kyuhyun blinked as he was pulled to the side of the restaurant, given the best but unknown view of where the show would begin.

"Which friend do you like now?" Kyuhyun asked abruptly, a slight edge to his voice. Donghae widened his eyes.

"Who..."

"A birdie told me."

"Do bears fly now?" Donghae muttered to himself, thinning his lips.

"Just spill who the jerk is now." Kyuhyun added impatiently.

"How would you know he's a jerk?" Donghae countered.

"Because your taste in guys gets worst and worst. Is it asking for much for you to finally pick someone remotely decent? Someone who bothers to check if you're home on time, to check if you didn't injure yourself, to see if you've eaten, if anyone's bothering you at work. Someone who gives a second to just ask you if anything's wrong, to make sure you're happy and to go about their way to ensure it if you aren't."

"And what then? Think you could do it?"

"Of course." Kyuhyun uttered without hesitance, startling the other. "If I had you, I wouldn't forget that, ever. And I honestly don't see how the others just treat you like this, those lucky bastards don't know how good they have it."

Donghae froze at the blatant declaration as Kyuhyun looked back at the calm waters that sprouted to life, revealing an image of lights coming across the wave of water. The tourists gasped in awe.

"I don't think Kibum is that bad." Donghae added afterward.

Kyuhyun gawked, about to counter with a long winded argument when Donghae interrupted him with a kiss to his cheek. The man lost his train of thought.

"If no one calls me before midnight, I'll kiss you." Donghae stated, standing beside him. His calm demeanor failed to hide how nervous and flustered he became, looking back at the water light show. It'd end exactly at midnight, and Kyuhyun felt his shoulders tense.

The show seemed to go on forever, and Kyuhyun repeatedly glanced at the cell that hung from Donghae's belt. One retched ring, and he swore it'd be destroyed on the spot.

To his relief, the show ended without a single interruption, the clock struck 12 when without waiting for Donghae to act on his word, he kissed him on the lips.

"What was that about Kibum?" He asked once they parted, still as close as before.

"A joke." Donghae insisted. Kyuhyun stared him down in disbelief. Donghae pecked his lips once more and smiled. "We should head back." He suggested, walking back to the solace of the warm restaurant.

Kyuhyun remained there for a short pause, hands clutching the cold rail. He didn't care for the people watching, and reached to grab Donghae back, holding him close. He waited too long to care for what others would think.

Phone calls for never his forte, their work requiring them to be side by side often. But in times they were separated, Donghae was glad to know he'd never have to wait.

Each time the phone rang and revealed his name on screen, it brought a smile to his lips. The seemingly cold and heartless man was just as ruthless, but held more that others may never see, a side Donghae was more than glad to know.
