SabotenCon Mini Report

Nov 10, 2009 18:17

Here is quick report of what all I did at SabotenCon, the con for which I volunteered far too much of my time to be good for my own health. x.x

FRIDAY

Wore Sailor Iron Mouse cosplay. No one recognised it but apparently I look hot in it based on many reactions.

(old photo, but this costume has barely been worn and deserves to be seen!)

Began the day with 4 hours of panels! Hardly anyone showed for Iron Lolita, Iron Cosplay was entertaining as always - this time with an "undead" theme.
Sew You Wanna Cosplay/Cosplay 101 by Kisa, Fuu, DA and I went well - improved from Anime Tucon, but we forgot half our supplies. xD Next con it will be even better. Next was our first time doing the Take the Stage/Masquerades panel - all the cosplayers must have been at Yaya's panel or couldn't find the room...right? A lot of people could have used this panel. xD

Not too much later was opening ceremonies. I don't always attend these but I performed a couple songs with Cafe Moe. Video here:

I snuck away for a bit (really only like 20-30 minutes) to attend Cosplay Prom with Frank. I wore one of my oldest but favorite lolita dresses. It was setup really cute and I would have liked to stay and socialize. I have never slow danced before and that was weird. I suppose the anime music was not ideal, but it was still weird! xD

Later that night, ran Streets of Japan Dance and (21+ Club) with SunaCosu peeps. The initial delay of setting up and so many decorations not working was upsetting, but the crowd still seemed to love it just the same. I wish the 21+ Club had been as popular. I'm still not sure if it was the drink prices, the music, or something else that kept everyone away. *shrug*

SATURDAY

Frank and I began the day bright and early with the Arizona Communities panel, which was a bust but we did it anyway. Hey, who actually comes to 10 am fan panels?

Cafe Moe~! The event I probably spent the most time preparing for!! I learned about 8 dances and sadly only performed 5 of them, and had mic issues with First Kiss. I had a lot of fun serving my masters and playing games with them, though! I love wearing my cute new uniform (photos in last entry HERE)

Not my best performance. This was the last dance I learned, as a fill-in, The carpet floor was so hard to turn on! D: Anataboshi!

I like to call this subgroup "Multicultural Milky Way" xD xD

Next was the masquerade! It's been awhile since I actually COMPETED in a masquerade instead of staffing one. I debuted my costume of Chise from the manga/anime Saikano just for this purpose. This costume was a challenge that I've been working on for several months and I am proud of the result. It won me "Best Prop!" Which is crazy because the gun/wings are my pretty much my first major prop!

Overall the quality of costumes and performances seems way up from last year. Several of my friends won awards as well - yay I'm so proud of Arizona cosplayers!!

Tonight was Halloweentown Dance (and again 21+ Club). So many things went wrong - started late, blew a speaker, the dancer floor literally came apart. D: But thanks to DJ and all event staff and gogo dancers, it was pretty sweet anyway. I think we still do a damn good job! Here's a cool photo of the stage setup:

SUNDAY

Our final panel of the day, Prop-o-ganda led by Fuu was very successful! People really want to learn about making props! It's too bad an hour is HARDLY enough time to cover it all.

Kisa and Fuu were the tea party hostesses this year, with their Victorian vampire theme. I think this was the best local con tea party yet! Great theme, awesome decorations, fun games, and actual hot tea and tea pots! Now there's a first. I'm totally not biased because they are my friends. *cough* I only wished we had more variety in food and not 5 different cupcakes xD; I wore my Halloween lolita that I made the night before. Strange - I spent only a few hours and got tons of compliments. Here's a surprise shot:

Thanks to everyone whose pictures and video I nabbed - VicousWarGoose, DragonLenz, Kevin Dooley, Yukiko, whoever else. I literally have none because I was too busy to take them! A full photoshoot of my Chise costume will be coming soon! =D =D =D
