So I already know that the insulin spike you get from eating a big bowl of rice increases tryptophan uptake to the brain, which should also increase the amount of turnover of serotonin to melatonin, making you
sleepier all else equal. Turns out
rice, seeds and other edible plants also have a lot of melatonin in them, much of which is absorbed into the blood stream when consumed. So it's actually a fatigue double-whammy. Oh, and did anyone else know that melatonin is used as a treatment for immunodeficiency? Turns out it gets your T-cells all hot and bothered. Soooo, if you have
an autoimmune disorder . . . maybe not so good.
