On the one hand, I was really looking forward to Spore. On the other, I really enjoy me
a good backlash, so the amusement takes the edge off quite a bit. EA has managed to piss a bunch of people off to
precisely no purpose, but that's not the the part of the story that interests me most. If you ignore all the single-issue DRM reviews, there's still a surprisingly large number of negative reviews whose collective consensus seems to be that the creature creation is fun but the rest of the game is boring. Apparently it just doesn't live up to the hype and is too limited for a lot of players tastes. I really would not want to be in Will Wright's shoes just now, but on the plus side I think this says good things about the demand for more complex games.
