So the mazda finally gasped its last breath.
Well not exactly, just all the problems with it finally blew up at once. Here is the laundry list:
1) Borked Water pump, this caused a steady loss of coolant as I drove it which caused a steady buildup of :
2) heat damage, parts of the engine warped a bit, causing the headgaskets to take a slight but steady beating which then lead to :
3) blown head gasket. This causes a nice plume of smoke to usher fourth from the tailpipe, at a level of " Q installed a smoke screen device in my car without an off switch". Which allowed me to notice that:
4) there is a hole somewhere in my exhaust system. Not only does said smoke come out of the tailpipe, but from directly under my car. Kinda like a tracer round of foul smelling exhaust. And finally:
5) severely corroded battery terminals causing severe charge loss on batter: which lead to the final straw:
6) Kicked battery.
So, a series of things happened this past week.
First I was on the phone with my dad as we diagnosed these problems and considered the cost to fix them, versus what we paid for the car in the first place ( $200). When we decided that the car was trying to just give up and die yet some bastard just wouldn't remove the feeding tube, it was decided that another junker would have to do. Just so happens my dad has such a junker. This one with only 50K miles on it and in need of a few repairs.
After a rocky couple of days my dad got fed up, drove to Philly, dropped off my mom's sentra ( 04), and had me go to work on sat and drive it to baltimore.
Once at baltimore it turns out that the new junker, an 86 Buick Somerset, needed more then a few repairs, we did what we could ( replaced the brakeline, did some work on the tires), but it turns out we had a real tool of a previous owner here.
Not only did he have a borked exhaust pipe on his car, but he bought the wrong part to fix it, instead of getting the right part, he forced it to fit with a Welding Torch. Welding it in place, now even more repairs, these time consuiming, needed to be done.
That work My dad and I didn't have time to do, so he sent me back to Philly with his '04 Ford Ranger pickup till the buick is fixed and inspected.
