I had... a thought

Dec 29, 2009 02:55

Its not, like, epic, its just a thought that I'm plopping into you, my dear journal. It doesn't make a shitton of frikkin' sense, but that's why its under a glorious cut. Which I only just recently figured out how to use. Sorry for not sparring the uninterested sooner DX

Soooo, here goes...

I sometimes like characters solely for their pretty. Shallow? Yes. Definitely, in fact. Does it matter? Fuck no. I should be allowed to drool over a character if I want. I like that character just because I know the damn fanfiction is good. That's fine with me. Hell, its not like I'm getting laid any time soon.

Another point.

I'm... annoying. Fully aware of this. Just... I never want to be that atrociously annoying fantard who irritates everyone in existance. Am I that? This isn't even a point.. why did I put that up there? Anyway... am I one of those annoying fans? Shit.

The more I go on fandom secrets, the more that I question how I am when it comes to fandom, and who others are classifying myself as. The first is just a chat to myself.

OH. AND BY-THE-FREAKIN'-BY. Emoticons are not immature. They're not. I've been thinking about this, and the more I think about it the more I realize that people who don't use emoticons often are actually choosing a less effective speech method. Human beings and most other social animals are highly clued in to visual clues to imply the meaning behind words. Yes? Yes. This is true. How many online conversations have ended in arguments due to misunderstandings? Due to someone thinking they're being an ass when they're not? Emoticons are people's way of making up for an impairment. Almost like when the mind forces other sense to improve once another sense has shut down. We use emoticons to express the emotions we are feeling behind the words. This plays into our need for visual cues. Granted, this is not a fully successful method. Emoticons are far more easily manipulated than physical responses, but its something. Honestly? People who don't use emotes just to prove they aren't a goddamned fangirl or that they aren't obnoxious? Yeah. You're actually freakin' doin' it wrong.
