SGA: Episode 305

Ok, please tell me that someone else liked this? On the forum I moderate for everyone seems to not be liking it. They don't hate it, but they're not going crazy about it. I personally loved it.

Episode 305 - Progeny

That was frakking amazing. I’m still in awe over this episode, totally in awe. Ancient replicators: one of the best ideas ever.

I wasn’t even able to predict anything that happened, and what did happen was so shocking that it astounded me.

When the episode started off I wasn’t so sure about the inclusion of Weir in their little mission, but I ended up liking it. It was nice to see her off world, (well off Atlantis), for a change. I think it also added a bit to the team dynamic, which was nice.

I enjoyed how the episode started off, with them all getting ready to go through the gate. I just adore how they interact as a team. I love it all the time, but it’s good to see it when they aren’t in life-threatening danger. Lol. Ronon playing with his gun, John telling him to stop, Teyla giving Ronon a look…

When they got to the outpost Rodney reminded me of one of those pesky tourists. (I.e. Complaining about the lack of ancient cars.) You just gotta love him.

When we were given the first shot of the city I think that my mouth literally fell open. Needless to say, it was a very impressive sight. And the ZPMs, didn’t take them long to get to that point. Lol. Although I suppose it is very important to the expedition, but I just get tired of hearing about them every episode. It was funny though: “Rodney you’re slobbering.” But I did get excited about the possibility of… oh say… a ZPM factory. How awesome would that be?

So when they get to the meeting, and the guy mentions that they have a plan to destroy the wraith, I started to get suspicious. That’s just too good to be true. To find a city of ancients, with a whole whack of ZPMs, and they have a plan to defeat the wraith? No. I don’t think so. But that’s what kept me guessing.

When Teyla later brought up the possibility that they could be lying, all that I could think was ‘Thank you for saying what needed to be said’. It’s just too good to be true. Then realizing that they don’t have a plan…. Well those lying {insert nasty word of choice}.

They aren’t the only ones who are good at lying; Elizabeth was awesome. When she was talking to Olberon (sp?) she just lied straight to his face, not sounding the least bit untruthful. Now that takes talent. He should have kept her prisoner just so he could take lessons.

Now those replicators have to be pretty stupid, going into the cell unarmed. (Or so I thought when I was watching it, because I didn’t know the twist.) It was the Ronon and John show… for about two seconds. :D

As they’re making their getaway (in John’s mind) I just kept thinking that it was way too easy. Wonder why, hey? Lol. But when the wraith came to attack Atlantis (in John’s mind), it scared the crap out of me. I was one hundred percent fooled, and I love that I was. My heart was beating so fast because my mind just kept racing for ways that they could escape from that, but I couldn’t think of any. That is by far my favorite part of the episode.

Then the scene cuts to a hand coming out of John’s head, and it all clicks in. What a great way to reveal the twist. The whole replicators plot line for this story is just ingenious, or at least I think it is. I couldn’t love it any more than I already do.

Then they’re frakking flying the city!! Hello, loved this part too! I’ve been waiting forever for this to happen.

When they were talking about the different scenarios, I can’t help but wonder what Teyla imagined/saw. The look on her face, and the way she was talking… it seemed really bad. Hmmm. I guess I’ll let my own imagination take over on that one.

One of the few things that I didn’t like about this episode was how much that one scene with Dr. Weir resonated with the Sam/Fifth thing. It just seemed like a rip-off to me. Like they couldn’t think of any better way to advance the plot and tell the story, so they just reused an old idea.

When Weir was talking about the replicators’ existence, she said that the ancients were parents who betrayed them. Ummm, remind anyone of Battlestar Galactica here? That was the absolute first thing that my mind jumped too.

They set up their whole plan, and they only have minutes to carry it out. Why the heck don’t they move faster? I mean, honestly. Let’s just walk around and wave our hands around in front of the frozen machines/people. If that were me, I’d be booting it for the nearest exit, not standing around like a tourist in a museum.

But they made it, barely. Although it just wouldn’t be the same if they escaped with tons of time to spare. And although I was kind of expecting something to happen with that one replicator they brought with them, I was still shocked when he was reset and he started to choke Elizabeth. I knew he wouldn’t actually kill her, but I was still a tad bit shocked.

When they threw him out the back of the puddle jumper… once again my mind when straight to BSG. He’s a cylon!! Lmao.

Now they have a whole new set of bad guys to watch out for. Yikes! That’s the absolute last thing that they needed. I’m hoping that they’ll somehow manage to get the replicators to fight the wraith. I have no idea how this would happen, no even the tiniest bit, but it would be kind of cool. :)

The episode was fantastic from start to finish, (with the exception of the one Weir/replicator scene), and I couldn’t be more happy with it. I think it’s my new favorite Atlantis episode and I give it a big whoppin’ 99/100.
