Okay, so I'm a little late in posting my review. But... I don't care. Lol. Here it is if anyone's interested. :)
Stargate Atlantis: Episode 314 - Tao Of Rodney
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, although I’m not sure I loved it as much as everyone seems to have. There’s no specific reason, but I just wasn’t as ecstatic as other seemed to be. *shrugs* Oh well.
I did however watch it again so that it was fresh in my mind for the review, and it was just as enjoyable the second time around. I also suspect it will be the same for the third, and fourth viewings. :)
There were so many things that I loved about this episode, and I know that I won’t be able to name them all. The only thing that I maybe didn’t like was that there wasn’t much action to balance with the character-y-ness of the episode. I love character driven episodes, but I especially love them when the writers manage to balance it with some sort of action, like in Phantoms. But having said that, it doesn’t mean I didn’t like the plot of this episode.
I actually think the idea was great, because we get to see what Rodney’s really like, instead of just who he projects himself to be. I think we’ve all known deep down that Rodney isn’t as arrogant and annoying as he seems, and know we’ve seen that. All the little moments that he had with each of the other characters were great.
I think the two that surprised me the most were the scene he had with Teyla, and then the one with Ronon. I thought it was so sweet of him to offer to do the ceremonial tea with her. And healing the scars on Ronon’s back… loved it. I do think that they should have left the one with Zelenka until the end though, but maybe that wouldn’t have worked for the rest of the story.
Another reason that I liked this was not only did it have classically hilarious McKay moments; it had serious ones too. I think that David Hewlett did a flipping fantastic job with this episode. (And he talked so fast!) One of my favorite serious parts had to be him asking John to read his eulogy, and then telling him that he wanted Jeannie to be there. I think I might have even teared up.
Something that really jumped out at me when I watched it the second time was that Weir was working with the team. Normally she’s involved, but on a commanding level. In this she was in there working with them, and using her knowledge of the ancient language. It was just really nice to see.
This episode also reinforced my love for Ronon. (Not like it needed reinforcing. Lol.) The scene where the girl was thinking that Ronon was hot was so funny. And the best part of the entire episode (in my opinion):
Rodney: You know, we could be a team. You could be my sidekick.
Ronon: Sidekick?
Rodney: Yeah, it’d be like Batman and Ronon. It has a nice ring to it.
Ronon: Yeah? You keep eating like that, it’s going to be more like Fat Man.
There are so many other little things that made the episode great too. I could mention them all, but then this review would be insanely long. Lol.
This episode was great, and it’s one that is really going to stand out in my mind. I’d rate it at 97/100.
