Jungian Theory

If lives are like texts, their meanings are hidden between the lines, cleverly disguised by authors who do not consciously know what they are doing.

In my psychology of personality class on Thursday, we started talking about Carl Jung and his theories of personality. One of them, that I hadn't heard before, was the theory of the animus/anima. This ( Read more... )

First, im not sure if its gonna tell you who i am....I is Ashley :)

Soooo....opposites attract? Or is it opposite if what you're attracted to is actually what's unconscious? N how is the androgynous person attracted to the androgynous person if they're supposed to be attracted to the opposite? Im confused, because I would think the opposite couldnt be exactly the same because then the unconscious is then the same as the reality.

It didn't tell me, so thanks for the clear up. :p

First, grammar. Use it. lol Second, yeah, it's still considered your opposite even if it is your unconscious. We don't have access to our unconscious or the workings of it, so the person who is our opposite is, in fact, the physical representation of our unconscious. This still makes them our opposite, according to Jung, because by interacting with them, we learn more about ourselves. Even though they usually annoy the piss out of us because they are so different from our conscious selves.

The androgynous person part was more hypothesized in class. Jung himself didn't speak on it. But what we meant by it is not that they are the same, it's more like they are "even" so the person they are with must be "even" as well. Think about it on a scale; there's Low->Medium->High. The opposite of Low is High and vice versa. So what would the opposite of Medium be? Another Medium but in a different way. That's why the female with more masculine traits with the male with feminine traits. Better

Jung! The father of the MBTI quizzes! :))

I tried reading your paragraphs backwards, starting with the the last sentence of paragraph 2, then the second the last sentence of paragraph 2, then the third sentence, and so on and so forth. I don't see the fallacy. What fallacy are you talking about? Or did I not read it right?

I also looked at the profile on semeuke.com. OMG funny. :)) This looks like old-school fandom!

And yes, pretty boys are lovely.

And your header looks pretty stellar, too.

Well the backwards parts would be for the last 2 paragraphs before the very last. And I can't remember the name of the fallacy (or I would have put it) but it's when you "say these qualities apply to me so this category must be me". So I said since I tend to like androgyny, I must fit the androgyny paradigm myself. I believe this was a fallacy, if only I could remember the name...

This looks like old-school fandom!
