Old Concert Info Stuff

I finally finished my exams approximately half a week ago. Since then, it's been the process of packing and moving out of the dorm. I hate packing to begin with, but packing up your entire room while also preparing separate suitcases for three different events (Greece, internship, Columbia) is doubly horrible. It's on my list of things to never do again. But I'm more or less moved out now and crashing at my cousin's house until we leave DC for Greece this Thursday.

So while I have time I figured I'd tell you about these two concerts I went to back in April. The first was April 13th, 4 bands, $100 floor seating at the Verizon Center. Not a bad price considering the amount of bands so I wasn't sweating it. The second was on April 23rd, 4 bands again (technically), $35 general admission at American University. Now tell me this...why was the second concert SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST???

The first concert was technically a Nickelback concert for their Dark Horse album, but I actually went for their opening bands; Sick Puppies, Shinedown, and Breaking Benjamin. Now, y'all may not remember, but Breaking Benjamin was actually one of the bands at the first rock concert I attended a few years back, documented here. I've been a huge fan ever since, so I was really excited to see them again after two years. Plus their newest album in the shit. And as I'm sure you do know, I've been chasing Shinedown around all over the damn country until I finally caught them, so this was actually my third time seeing them (after Scrougin the Coast with Papa Roach and this free concert they did at Louisiana State University (LSU)). So I knew what to expect and knew they would be good. Sick Puppies I was interested in seeing. I like a couple of their songs so I figured I wouldn't be disappointed. As for Nickelback, I had no expectations. As far as I was concerned, they just brought the other bands to me in a concert that they happened to headline.

So the concert started at the obscenely early hour of 6:30 because DC metro shuts down at midnight during the week (this was a Tuesday) and the concert had to end by 11. I don't get out of class til 5. So I was running trying to change, eat, and make it there. I didn't, by the way. By the time I got there at 6:50 Sick Puppies had already finished and they were setting up for Shinedown. (I later found out Sick Puppies started early, which is bullshit when you tell people the concert begins at 6:30.)

Then, on my hunt for a Breaking Benjamin shirt I missed the beginning of Shinedown's show, but I was cool because I had just seen them a month ago at LSU. Since I only missed two songs I figured the others would make up for it. Well, see the problem with that was they only played about 7 songs. 40 minutes. Same thing with Breaking Ben, 40-minute 7-song set. Both of them were great with the time they were given but they should have been given more! I understand it was their concert but Nickelback did not need a damn 2 hour set. They were not entertaining enough for it and they talked far too much. If I hadn't paid $100 for those tickets I really would have left when they got on the stage. The best part of their performance was the drum solo cuz he was fuckin beastly on them!

So while the concert was good it wasn't great like I expected. Because I had been looking forward to this concert since December. On the other hand, I bought the other concert tickets a mere month beforehand and they were great. Because it was 30 Seconds to Mars!!! Yep, I saw them in concert. And, wouldn't you know it, they were fucking awesome!! They did have three opening bands but I had no idea who they were so they didn't really matter to me. It was all about 30STM. And, man, when I say they didn't disappoint, they did not disappoint. Even though Jared (lead singer) was crazy sick, it was still one of the best concerts I've been to. It was truly right up there with Green Day, for me. (Even though I was kind of in awe of Green Day, so I suppose they still hold the #1 spot.) Not to mention I got on stage when they did the call for Kings & Queens, AND they did a signing afterwards! Yeah, it was great, and a fraction of the cost of the first one. And they currently comprise 3 of the ringtones for my phone. :)

...Did I mention how hot Jared is in person? Because he is, he really is. Even with his pink ass mohawk.

And some Shannon for his lovers. (Didn't get any good ones of Tomo, unfortunately.)
