So I'm getting on here just so I won't die from the possible lack of it I'll have starting tomorrow. Haven't had a chance to comment on posts and stuff, but hopefully there will be computer in Florida with internet so I can. My gramps, lil cousin and I are going to Miami tomorrow. So looking forward to it!! I've never been to a beach before and we just happen to be going to MIAMI!! (And no, the hurricane's not damaging anything there, in case you're wondering.)
Okay, so my list of things worth notice (only done this way because of time constraint):
-- won volleyball game yesterday
-- going to Miami, FL tomorrow until Labor Day
-- I'm writing for the school newspaper
-- wrote 3rd ficlet for
30_kisses challenge
-- got V for Vendetta to watch
-- two essay paper due on Tuesday of next week
-- two Calculus AB (AP) tests tomorrow
Yeah, wonderful stuff, right? I know.
As you all know, I'm a Christian, albeit a little more liberal than most. But I am heavily involved with my youth church services and people. So the youth group from my church, known as 220, is trying to get a 220 Christian group at a few high schools in my city. My school's name was on the list, but was one of the ones without a person to go there because everything hadn't been sorted out yet. They ask me to help get information for them when they found out I went there.
Over the past couple weeks of school, I've been trying to find out how they could get started, when they could come, stuff like that. I talk to this teacher I know is Christian and she said it's likely they'd have to merge with the already existing Christian club at the school. So, I go to talk to the person at the head of the club to see if she'd allow it.
And now it gets good.
You know it's bad when people who are supposed to be united as a common people for a cause start discriminating, in a way. I go to the teacher over the club and tell her the situation and ask if it's possible for my church group to converge with her little club. She says the only problem is that the club is for every denomination. My church is non-denominational and I tell her so. Then she's like, well, Bethany is a little (and she doesn't use this word, but it has mainly the same meaning) pushy. Meaning, Bethany, my church, comes on too strong with their preachings and such. My big question is, HOW THE HECK CAN YOU COME ON TOO STRONG IF IT'S A CHRISTIAN CLUB?!
It really bothered me when she said that, like, I actually felt a pang in my stomach because she made that comment. So of course I wanted to respond back with a few choice words, but I didn't. I kept my cool and just got what I wanted by getting her to agree to them coming sometimes. Thinking on this later, the thought that came to mind about her comment was actually from something my pastor said once: how Bethany was on fire for God, not dead like a lot of church services out there. And how some Christians can't go to Bethany because of the radical (in a good way) ideas that are taught. It scares them. I believe it scared this teacher.
Now, I know a lot of ya'll aren't Christian, but just compare this to shounen-ai or yaoi or something. It's just a fellow yaoi fan not liking you simply because you write yaoi fanfics and such. They know nothing about you as a person, but dislike you simply because you write it instead of watch/read it (anime/manga forms). And then they stop you from joining a group you want to because of this. Not exactly the same, but you get my picture.
So yeah, that really bothered me. And I have been waiting to get on here just to post this all day.
