I'm back in the USA. India, I think, made me a little less idealistic and a little less trusting, but in general it was a really incredible, interesting, and fun trip. I stayed with my friend Ayan's amazingly-good-cook grandmother in Kolkata, discovered my hidden raver and then got food poisoning on the beaches of Goa, hung out with Indian socialites and did LOTS of shopping in Bombay, and went to 5 religious sites in 24 hours but also got scammed in Delhi. It was a very busy and AWESOME winter break. But I am pretty sure I'm not going to go back to India for at least several years. If Ayan wasn't with us, it would've been 10 times harder and it was already pretty hard to get around or anything done. He speaks Bengali and so-so Hindi, plus has the advantage of not immediately being identifiable as a tourist, so that was good. In Bombay we were there at the same time as Madonna, and we actually ate dessert in her hotel and visited the same sites as her but two hours before she did, without knowing it until we read about it in the newspaper the next day.
Being back in NY is cool (and cold) but I have SO MUCH TO DO before school starts tuesday. Like applying to internships? (AHH). Yay real life. I haven't missed you.
