April 27th, 11am MST - Book ticket for flights to and from YYZ to go see Shalini's family in Toronto. Agree to arrive together in TO @ 9:30 in Terminal 1 and go through customs together and make every moment count.
Wednesday June 27, 10pm MST( aka FUCKING ARIZONA AND THEIR LACK OF LOVE FOR DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME TIME, or rather for all practical purposes Pacific time) - attempt to check in on-line. Note that my non-stop from PHX to YYZ @ 2:30 no longer exists, instead I'll leave PHX @ 2:30 fly to ORD, have 2 hour layover in ORD, fly to YYZ, land @ 11:30, 2 hours later then intended. Call 1-800-United-1 and proceed to bitch out every single person on the phone until I get a partial refund of a whopping $50 (on a $700 ticket) and free upgrade on my flight from ORD to YYZ. Call Shalini and fill her in, go to bed unhappily grumpy but accepting the fate.
Thursday June 28, 5am MST (aka GOD HATES ARIZONA TIME) - get call from Shalini informing me that there is a flight that leaves @ 10:30 from PHX and flies direct to YYZ. Proceed to get shit together in record time and manage only to forget one thing that I currently cannot recall thus rendering it unimportant in the first place. Get to PHX @ 6am, park and walk into terminal to try to get on standby for this 10:30 flight. Line is out the door. Wait for THREE FUCKING HOURS, while in line call United's complaint line, bitch up a storm and won't take no for an answer, get the supervisor on the phone and bitch at this guy. Get $150 voucher for future travel. Get to the beginning of the roped section (note my line crossed the first class line so we had to do the sorry I'm here line is out the door, oh you're first class? Please go by me waltz) talk to agent. Ask about stand by, mention that I have a flight. She suggests I check min and try there. Go to electronic check in, NOTE THIS OPTION HAD BEEN AVAILABLE OT ME FOR THREE HOURS I AM A DUMB ASS AND UNITED HAS HORRIBLE STAFFING IN PHX) Check in via self check-in, wait time: 5 minutes. Act dumb, pull out my printed itinerary from my inital booking. Complain that this is not my flight. Agent at the counter puts me on standby (note I came there THREE HOURS BEFORE IN ORDER TO DO THIS VERY THING!!!!!) for my flight @ 10:30. I proceed to check my luggage and move on to security and get on my flight. Now instead of landing @ 9:30 I land @ 6:30.
Get off the plane and meet Janine, Shalini's sister, and Deidre Shalini's cousin. Drive to Shalini's parents house and meet the family, alone, by myself. The people who had met Shalini's previous fiancee and loved him by all accounts. They embrace me like one of their own. feel right at home. Get text and cell messages from shalini as she gets stuck in PHI for the next several hours. Finally go with Janine, and Shalini's cousins Christine and Kevin, to YYZ to pick up Shalini... at 11:30
Have a wonderful time in Toronto. Hear that I have been selected for a 6-mo contract position in Denver that I interviewed for on Wednesday, tell them no thank you after talking over with Shalini. Hear about a position in Orlando on a 1 year contract, express my interest. Told they're moving and he does not have internet access but will forward me the requirements to see if I am still interested. I agree that would be a good idea. Call back on July 3rd three time, unable to reach recruiter. Get e-mail and voicemail from recruiter position closed. Unsure if this gentleman is spiting me for not taking the position in Denver.
Currently flying back, currently in ORD on a two hour layover. Pondering bitching at united because they fucked up my return flight as well. I may. we'll see.
Thoughts on the future? Phoenix is not for me. I don't think I have ever given it a fair shake, but all my pass times are designed to keep me so occupied and not thinking about how much I miss Shalini. I should know tomorrow what my future travel plans hold, currently I am slated to be in Gaithersberg, MD (45 min from Regan - sorry forgot the airport code) around labor day, and in Ft. L-dale around October. But as I seem to be pulling back to Florida to be with the person I love more then anything in this world my closest friends have departed or will soon be departing from my once and future home.
I urge everyone who has a complaint against the air carrier of choice to bitch and bitch until you get something in return.
Finally, I think the built in spell checker for firefox is the greatest thing ever!
